Campagnolo Early second generation crank set

Ball park guess anyone...not the very first year, but the next year campy record crank set with the raised pedal lip and machining. I think they made these for just one year in late 1950's perhaps..This set is in great shape with the dust caps and original pedals as well. I know that the first year cranks with the little pedal dust caps go for big money sometimes but these are not quite as sought after I imagine.

Bikes: No-name LH drive track. Also ride an Exxon Graftek, a Masi, a Trek R200 or a RR Boneshaker for fun!

From the Velo-Retro Campagnolo timeline:
"1958 The iconic Record 5-pin cotterless crankset is introduced; 151mm bolt circle, 44 tooth minimum chainring, pedal hole dust caps, relieved spider and raised pedal lip. ..."
"1959 Record crank pedal hole dust cap is eliminated" so I am a bit confused as to what you have.

Sounds like if you have dust caps you have a 1958 first-year crankset.

Sorry to confuse you...mine do not have the 'pedal" dust caps that were on the 1958 model. Mine are the year after that...I meant it has dust caps over the crank bolts

Joe, there seems to be an intermediate version too. The very first version had machining away of where later would be the infamous cracking spider to arm intersection. There appears to be a version without the pedal bore caps that retained this feature.
This is the feature that I think gets market attention.
Condition of the chainrings also matters as does the presence of original chainring bolts.

Ah...OK...so I will post a picture so we know for sure. As of right now, I'm not too sure which version it is. Thanks much.

Sorry..these pictures should tell everything....no pedal caps...maybe they are just missing? I am assuming this set is the one right after the very first year record cranks that had pedal caps...not sure if there is any way else to discern first year from the second year except for the pedal caps. Thanks much.

Nice pics. This is the link to HiCampy. He discusses all 3 types.

You have Joe I am pretty sure the first generation crank that has lost its pedal hole end caps.
Lucky fellow you are.
Note the cut away material between the crank arm and the adjacent spider arms.
You did not show, but the back side of the crank arm on the drive side is flat if I recall correctly.
Lots of subtle changes over the decades on the Record crank.

There is always google tran…(translate)
Sometimes the word for word translation is a bit cumbersome, but other times, you can appreciate how variously fussy or streamlined anther language describes things.

Thanks very much as usual. I'm not sure if i'm very lucky however, as if the pedal caps are missing, I'm not sure if anyone would happen to have a set of those. I will look at the back side of the cranks as well. Could these be the next year cranks? Maybe the only difference is the pedal caps? Thanks veyr much again.
