Since that picture I lowered the seat a couple inches and changed how it attaches to the bike. Now it hooks behind the seat. I didn't have any trouble before but the change made the bike more stable, it stays standing without using the kickstand. Have put a couple hundred miles on it, my wife is brave. Will put a couple pictures when I have time.

I had an InStep trailer/stroller from 2001 to 2007, when it was stolen.
The "rated load capacity" was 100 pounds. I regularly had up to 400 pounds in it, and jad no problems whatever. (a low granny gear and properly setup cantilever brakes on the bike helped.)

Did you resolve your adult trailer issue?
I saw a recumbent trailer similar to this in Norwich yesterday, but it was being towed by a man in his 30's riding normal Hybrid style bicycle and a lady in her mid/late 20's was pedalling the recumbent trailer........... and they were going fast in the city traffic.
