626 Golden Streets 10/29 Arroyo Seco

Anyone going? Taking the family. These are pretty fun rides for the fam. Arroyo Seco is completely closed from 7-11 I believe

I'm rolling with a few of my buddies. I can't pass up the opportunity to ride my bike on the sketchiest freeway in LA!

So crowded! Makes my local MUPs look like closed-circuit racecourse.

I had to look this up. I've lived in Long Beach my whole life and have no idea where Arroyo Seco was.

My only gripe is they should’ve made some type of median for the wheeled lanes. I saw too many close call head of collisions when ppl were passing. At least for the down hill sections. And many ppl that have ZERO bike etiquette.

over all my family of five on bikes and one on a scooter got home safe.

I rode the event and added some extra credit today climbing Elysian Park for almost 40 miles of riding. At the event I saw 3 accidents and paramedics on the scene. In fact I think it was much more safe on the walk/run side of the freeway. The bike side was chaotic with some cyclists thinking it was their personal race track. I saw lots of small children and some with no helmets. I honestly wouldn't feel safe letting my kids ride their bikes with the lack of safety. Saying that I mainly just did it for the experience. Though I was happy to get back on the open streets. At least it's easier to predict the movement of cars as opposed to clueless cyclists!

E-bikes, hover boards, OneWheels didn't exist in 2003 the first time they had the event, nor did they have people trying to do selfies, live streams and/or trying to get social media likes in real-time! People seem less in-tune and not spatially aware nowadays.
