Pre-Loop?

I might do Mt. Wilson on the 2, leaving out the last bit (or not) and get back to the Rose Bowl by 10:30.

But, if someone familiar with the area knows of a good training 25 mile loop with some climbing that would start and end at the swim center, that would be cool for some EroicaCA Training. Folks doing two loops could swing by and pick up those that want to join on the second loop. The plan would be return to the swim club by 10:30.

FYI Jeff, I’m subscribed to this thread with email notifications and the notification didn’t pop up until 4:30 pm day of the ride. You may have to post a day or more ahead to get takers. We should exchange contact info next time and coordinate pre-ride or ride to. We chatted about Raleighs second half of the ride today.

Heck of a turnout today with 30+ riders coming from as far as San Diego. Great weather and bikes to gawk over today.

And two riders from Chicago. One of them on a 192* Frejus with wooden rims. Maybe some one has a picture.

Great Pasadena ride today Feb. 2. Huge turnout, lots of cool bikes. Here's a few (OK, a lot of) pictures.

A gathering of Raleighs.

Beautiful Cinelli ...

... unusual drivetrain.

My '78 PR10 alongside its PX10 cousin.

Come on down, 1st Sunday every month, south end of Aquatic Center parking, south of the Rose Bowl, rollout at 11 am.

Indeed. I need to retire first. Right now I'm just... tired.

I visited the gathering, picked up a frame set for my daughter and then off to work. The water bottle on the 1924 Frejus Might be too period for me, lead or silver holding it together? Weather was very nice. Too many to say hello to. That is a good thing.

If you were watching the Sooper Bowl, you saw a little more of South Pasadena:

A couple blocks east on Mission, just west of Fair Oaks. The old Bank of America and Cappy's Liquor can be seen in the background. B&H Cycle (my old shop) was on that block, too.

No worries. I don't drink out of that thing, just for show.

I forced my son on the ride. He doesn't ride at all. Bonked about 6 miles from the rest stop. The pizza there really helped with the ride back to the Rosebowl. Don't worry about him. He really liked Caltech (the real reason for being there). He will get the last laugh with tuition.

College visits... The daughter has those on schedule, well actually my wife does. Good meeting you.
My son will ride with Dad. Never turns down an offer, but by himself?
The daughter may have forgotten to ride a bike now.

I thought I recognized that street and intersection!! I see that commercial often on CBS All Access while watching Star Trekiscovery and Picard. I chuckle each time I see it because its right on our Velo-Retro Route. Wonder if the other commercial scene in the restaurant is also a local restaurant?

Hi All,

I won't be able to ride with you tomorrow although I had desperately wanted to. The Feb. 2 Velo-Retro ride for me was very good, especially as part of my Eroica California 2020 training. Between that and my Feb. 8 ride in Long Beach / Signal Hill I probably rode and felt the best I ever have in 5 years. Unfortunately, about 3 hours after my Feb. 8 Saturday ride, I developed back and then left thigh pain, especially when walking and standing upright. Long story short, I've been sidelined now for 3 weeks, 2 weeks of which I literally wasn't able to walk without pain. An MRI shows I've got some slight disc protrusions at L3-4 on the left, and L4-5 across both sides, something that is new. After steroids and NSAIDS, plus PT stretching, my pain is thankfully gone but I've lost 11 pounds, some of which is lower leg muscle due to inactivity and numbness in the thigh and shin. I now have some numbness in my left knee and shin which makes it hard to reliably walk and feel stable although I know my muscles are still working. I'm working on walking more each day, and will incorporate some trainer cycling as I'm able.

Needless to say, not sure where this will lead but hopefully I will be able to recover eventually and be able to get back on the bike. At this point, I won't be able to ride the 2020 75 mile Santa Lucia Eroica route I was hoping to ride and not sure I could even ride the short 35 mile route. However, barring any issues regarding Coronavirus exposure, I still plan to attend Eroica and encourage everyone else to attend if able.

Please say Hi to everyone for me, convey my regrets, and hope to see you guys in May or June.

Bart
