Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I’ve never tuned any of my cars, but typically get my dealer to do the state emissions inspections. If you can build a good relationship with them, the ones that sell high end performance cars will often overlook such things as tunes and exhaust mods.

Our diesel program has no teeth.

If you have enough bad days, the feds will step in to make you provide a SIP (State Implementation Plan). Don't make a plan, and show improvement, you lose cash. They haven't yet needed a SIP for diesel particulates, so therefore, our diesel program is a state run deal, with no real federal help. We do find shops that are selling delete kits, tuner stuff, and other goodies, and turn them over to the EPA... That's a mother though, because dealing with the EPA is hard. Government mentality is real, and difficult, but the EPA makes our government look like pure commission pay workers.

We are centralized here, and use a contractor to provide emission tests, which basically stops clean piping. We have software that sniffs out the Calibration Identification Number, and the Calibration Verification Number, and if they don't jive, they fail the test. They then must come to my place, because it locks them out of a test from the contractor.

I have no idea how it works here. I don’t mod other than my Jeep (bumpers, lights, etc.), so never had an issue. I stay away from drivetrain and emission system changes.

Slow morning, everyone must be out gravel riding following Velo Vol 's example.

I'm not. I'm going to do a little work on my day off (WTF) then do some on-road road bicycle cycling. I might even be able to ride at peak temperature.

The last time I took a working day completely off from work was probably 17 June 2019, which, according to my photo metadata, was the last day out of cellular range from Bermuda in the Marion race.

Do you get paid time off? I don’t get any, so I am very judicious with taking days off.

I had the day off but not riding in the cold rain, so I did a virtual ride at the northern tip of Norway. A review of the course complained the light was bad.

Yes, but I work on vacation anyway because the accumulation of stuff-to-deal when I return makes taking time off pretty hard and no one can cover for me. However, I would certainly operate differently if I got paid by the piece.

My practice has a way of paying us that is described as “you eat what you kill,” maybe macabre for a medical practice but pretty accurate. It does reward hard work, for sure, but it has its dark side.

Same here. No such thing as a paid day off. Vacations actually cost double - the lost income and the cost of the trip.

Similar. Still pay staff and expenses whether I work or not. Don’t like but that’s the deal.
