so i got a compact crankset from my in-laws from xmas, they happened to see it on an amazon wishlist. I was actually on the fence about it, still am. The couple of times I rented bikes with compact setup, I do recall liking the 50, but I don't know if it's really all that different from 53 (although I tend to use 38 a lot more than I use 53, so maybe that's saying something). I'd have to get a new BB so I won't be trying it anytime soon if I do decide to keep it

I'm loving the Boston area weather. I'm not riding as much as I was during the summer, and a fair bit of my riding has been on the trainer -- an old school blackburn wind. But, I'm still riding enough, and getting in some 80-100 mile rides here and there, with a fair number of 40-60 mile rides.
Good to see that many folks have been enjoying their riding!!

Once I sell off all of my race gear in the spring I'm going compact SRM. I don't need the top end anymore and my VO2 is garbage.

RE: base training, it really, really works well for me. But I also have the time to put in the hours necessary to make it pay off, and there are intervals involved so it's not just endless z2, and the races I'm aiming for are 4+hrs long. I do think that one can get 95% of the way there without the hours via intervals.

4 hours, 266tss. Pretty draining, but not quite as much as having to make small talk at the holiday party tonight. #intjproblems

A bit over 6 hours. Mostly endurance, with 30', 10', and 20' Z4 thrown in at the hills. Last hour in the dark afraid my light would die, drained of energy (barely kept it Z2 on that final huge climb) and finishing with an 8 mile descent that left me shivering in a Starbucks for half an hour. Wife drove me the last 12 miles home.
96 miles, 9000 ft, 350 TSS
It's gonna rain tomorrow.

Listening through the door he sounded awesome though he's had a cold. He knew two of his judges from summer music so hopefully that's a plus. Early decision comes out this week so it's going to be an interesting Christmas one way or the other. My friend'so kids go there also in the SRT and we talked about your thing.

I see they have a site license. I'll upload a virus to the admissions computers, just let me know what SAT scores you would like. Also I can make him a Pacific Islander if you think that would help.

I'm attempting base training because a long season of mostly crits and too few road races, followed by reduced training when the season ended, left my endurance and FTP super low. That cost me some good results late in the season.

2hr mtb ride on some suuuuuuper fun trails today out past Santee... seriously spoiled me and potentially ruined anything else close to central San Diego.

day off yesterday, just got in a late session, even though I was feeling tired. rarely do I ever regret getting a good workout in. 5x9min over-unders (95-110%) whilst watching the Pats. not fun but i'm feeling good doing the overs. not scheduled to test for a couple more weeks, but kinda hoping I can do 20mins at 285 based on my RPE, but it's entirely different stringing together a straight 20mins at that wattage as opposed to 15-1min efforts at that level.

Rock scramble and hike yesterday with the kids. Hiking down off the crag my left quad started to get pingy. This morning it was still a little sore. I did my scheduled box jumps anyway and now it's quite sore indeed, no doubt due to the eccentric load from the jump landings. Feels like regular old muscle soreness, not an injury or anything, so hopefully it clears itself up.
