Looks like Biden is Riding a Trek in this recent photo

It's good to see the next president rides a bike :-)

Glad he's wearing a helmet... and a mask.

Unnecessary Mirror

I also use a mirror to maintain my situational awareness.

However, 2 Suburbans worth of Secret Service provide a rear-threat protection strategy that I have never previously considered. So I suppose he could drop a bit of weight with no significant increase in risk.

In my opinion, wearing a mask on a bike outside is where it becomes a political statement.

One of the primary reasons for wearing the mask is to prevent spreading infection to other people, including those who may be at high risk for SARS-CoV-2 complications. So it is good to see him doing so, even if it runs counter to the sensitivities of the self-absorbed alt-fact world.

Good public health practice.

If your surgeon wears a mask, it is to prevent infecting you, rather than the other way around. That isn't a political statement, either.

Maybe if we stopped conflating public health policy with politics, we wouldn't have to watch the death toll spiral upward of a quarter of a million people.

I see maybe 50/50 wear a mask while riding. Usually the ones wearing them are older and generally ride slower.

What gets me is someone wearing a mask but not a helmet. So they feel the risk of catching Covid while riding is higher than falling and hitting their head.

BTW.. i don't wear a mask while riding. I also keep way more than 6' away from others, I don't ride the MUP when crowded, I don't stop where others are and I average over 16mph so a mask would hinder my workout. But i do wear a mask all the other time's i'm outside.

No politics for me.

Required in many places. I have mixed feelings about it for solo rides, but if one is going to ride in a group or get struck in trail behind strangers waiting for an opportunity to pass it's not a bad idea.

Another thing is we're getting to a time of year when thermal face protection can be nice; though there's interaction with cold weather runny nose

I was in the supermarket yesterday, and some older woman was wearing one of those lower-face-only (jaw) visors, all the while she was using the back of her hand to wipe her running nose. Unbelievable.

As has already been said, you don't wear a mask to protect you. You wear it to protect others who might have serious complications from contracting Covid. On my ride today, I was glad to see > 75% of the riders wearing one and many of them were young

No politics for me.
It's not political for me either. Science shouldn't be a political issue

Now can you please tell me how you average 16mph? I just started riding and averaged 8mph on my last ride lmao! I can't tell if it's because I bought a cheap bike, or if I'm just grossly out of shape, or some combination of both haha

The mask is very good protection from right wing media who would otherwise call him a hypocrite.

And with that above political post, we will now close this thread, as well.
