Panaracer Gravelkings

I was looking at the Panaracer Gravelking SK or SK+, and depending on retailer are "tubeless ready, " or plain "tubeless." Anyone try the tubeless ready versions? Is it kinda like half good a two things? I am looking for a clincher, but most reviews don't touch on the dual use. I have Panaracer Pasela 700 x 32 currently.

Any thoughts?

According to the Panaracer website, all of the GK SKs are "tubeless compatible" except for the 26-622 and 28-622, which require tubes. The terms tubeless, tubeless-ready, and tubeless-compatible are synonymous.

Fully agreed.

You could argue they technically aren't tubeless until you mount them on your rims without a tube This is why "tubeless compatible" or "tubeless ready" are used to describe them as some people will still put tubes inside when mounting them.

It is true that in this case “tubeless” means the same thing and “tubeless ready/compatible”, but whoever is labeling these as simply “tubeless” is using the term incorrectly, IMO.

”Tubeless” technically means that it can be run without sealant on the proper “tubeless” rim.

Thanks. I wonder how tubeless ready tires work as a clincher? As good as a regular clincher?

Work in what way? The GK-SKs I have on my bike, mounted with tubes, roll down the road just fine.

Agreed - I have panaracer gravel kings on multiple bikes. I do run them with tubes but I cannot tell any difference between the normal ones and the tubeless ready ones.

I was asking because my understanding of tubeless rims (apparently flawed) was that they were not interchangeable. I guess things have changed.

Anyway, thanks for the input.

Any tubeless or tubeless ready rim can be set up with tubes.

From what I've read and experienced with tubeless ready rims, it can be very hard to get tires on and off. One bike in our family fleet would be pretty much impossible to fix a flat while on a ride, because our combined strength is barely enough to get the bead over the rim, even after trying all of the tricks in the book, and not wanting to injure our hands.

Personally I would only consider tubeless ready rims if I had a reason to ride tubeless, otherwise it's yet another technology to make cycling less pleasant for the average person.
