not over the hill( yet)

hi....i just joined, because I've been reading the forums, and I will be mostly into the 50+ group. having been a bike rider forever, I am on a slight hiatus while recovering from open heart surgery. the threads from like minded people encourage me to get back on my bike.

Welcome maxride! Cycling, little by little, should be an excellent means of recovering from your surgery. I'll be leaving the 50+ group next year you youngster, but still in love with riding.

ok, I am 76, but I don't wear old lady dresses or blue hair. ( see, I am just as guilty of ageism as the store clerks who call me 'honey' and ' darling' if they're not from the south.) before I had my event leading to heart surgery, I was logging an average 50 miles a week, with an occasional 20 miler thrown in. hills, dirt roads, good stuff on the mountain bike. so it's kinda weird to be thrilled about a mile and a third . my goal is to ride to the corner store, 6 mile round trip, work up to more of those. the covid cootie has me isolating, so I need to get out on my bike.

I gave up jogging a long time ago in favor of riding because even though they call swimming the low impact exercise, nothing beats riding a bike for low impact exercise. You can push yourself as hard or easy as you feel comfortable. If you get a fat tire or full suspension mtb it becomes even lower impact. Take care and good luck to ya,

comfort ride

I bought a saddle with cushy tusch pads and springs. I never did like the little skinny butt busters. my bike also has spring forks, which eases the bumps well. I'm getting more jazzed by the minute. reading all y'alls' threads. yes indeed. today has been a great send off to my new forum site.
