I'm deciding on a crankset for my track bike and was wondering if it is worth the extra money for the Sram Omniums over the AllCity 612 crankset. I went from a cheap Vuelta Pista crankset to Sugino RD2 crankset and now I'm using the AllCity 612 crankset on my commuter/training bike. I like the the AllCity a whole lot more than the other two I listed and was wondering if I should just stick to what works for me or should I try the Sram Omniums?

The AllCity cranks look pretty much like the Andel cranks.

I'd go for the Omniums if you are buying from scratch.

You won't experience any performance difference (read: Omniums, Dura Ace, etc... won't make you faster). The higher price pays for higher quality cranks that withstand high stress, have tighter quality control specs (i.e. round things are actually round), and last longer. If you already have the allcity cranks, just use them till they start giving you problems.

I'll be buying from scratch and I know a crankset won't make me any faster but I wanted something that will last me at least a few seasons of racing. I've never ridden a bike with the Omniums but I love my AllCity cranks, feels stiff enough to me and a lot stiffer than my cheap Vuelta and Sugino cranks. I guess I'll just give it some more thoughts but thanks for replies guys!

im not familiar with the All City Crank- but it looks like it runs for about $125, i'm seeing the Omniums for as low as $185 including a bottom bracket.
I would think that by the time you add a bottom bracket of the same quality as the Sram the price difference is pretty low...

I am with Carelton on the opinion that you wont feel any difference- but i would guess that the omnium is technically a "better" crank. It has received very high reviews- especially for its stiffness (which will likely not be noticeable)

if nothing else i would imagine the Sram Omnium would hold its value better

I have the All City cranks right now. I've bought a lot of things from All City, including my sprint bars, cogs and lockrings, a chainring, and grips. Often their stuff is the cheapest in my shop's catalog, yet their products work well and look handsome, too. I was surprised how beefy the 612 cranks are, plus they seem to be similar in design to the Omniums. The biggest difference between them is that the 612s are for JIS squaretaper BBs, and Omniums are for external BBs, I think. The Omniums also offer more choices for crank length, as the 612s are only offered in 165mm and 170mm.

Not a true straight up comparison though, they use two different types of bottom brackets. Can you buy any GXP crank without the bb included?

How much are Sugino 75's? I thought those were about the cheapest thing going that was "battle proven"

Seems like you could get a pair of those if you were spending up to 200, (its been a while since i bought anything though, so forgive me if there's something newer/better/cheaper)

I decided to just go with the AllCity cranks and use any money I can save on my track bike build towards racing the local TT and track.
