Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Hope it works out for you, it looks like a decent cog. There is a part of me that thinks bigger chainring and cog might make for a more efficient drivetrain but what the hell do I know.

Whatcha running for a chainring?

I like spinning low gears, but even with a 52t 'ring that's going to be less than 60gi. Just the thing for downtown hillclimbs.

The vintage chicken legs made the hill. I'm going to try bringing the legs home with me on a 20T.
82 cadence is about ~10mph, so 20T will speed things up a bit.
Had fun, last time on a fixed was ~40years ago.
Did 17 miles this morning. Mounting with cleats is going to need practice.

Barry

EDIT: Rather than going from 42x25T to 42Tx20T I've gone 46Tx25T
I'm building up slowly. Plus the 20T cog is not nearly as shiny!

EDIT2: With 46x25 installed "the" hill (from hell) was reattempted.
With fresh VCL* going at full blast... I made it, but only just ! 42x20 is not in the cards any time soon.

46T x 25T to 42T x 20T

Originally tried 42x25 = Way too slow, I just can't pedal that fast. "The" hell-hill was very do'able.

Just did the same 17 miles on the 46x25 .... that was fun! Held high cadence all the way at an avg 12mph.
Still on the RPM limiter, it causes the engine to cut out with drastic leaving the saddle results.
But at the end of the ride, the VCL's * did make it up the hill from hell.

Already changed again, this time to 42x20 another 10% increase in the gearing.
Tallyho .. VCL's get ready!

Being this is my fist fixed in almost 40 years, I having so much fun with it.

All the best

Barry

Edit: 42x20 did 17 miles and made the hill-o-hell. Surprised myself.
