I've never had a crash that involved my helmet, hope to keep it that way.

I have smashed 3 Bell Sweep helmets, and suffered no brain injuries.
2 of those times a full face would have saved a lot of skin, but I'll never wear a full face on the road.

My last big crash was in a Bell Volt. The helmet cracked in 4 places. My head was bruised and a little scratched but otherwise fine.

Many years ago, I was riding along about 25 MPH when I began feeling the onset of an epileptic seizure. Usually kept under control by medications, there are times when "breakthrough" seizures happen on rare occasions. As I rode on, I began to feel faint and knew that I needed to get off the road and ditch my bicycle.
Seeing a house that had a large, grassy lawn, I rolled up onto it and hoped for the best. The last thing I felt was my helmeted head hitting a tree before I lost consciousness.
I came to with an enormous headache. A woman who lived in the house had seen me crash on her property and notified the paramedics. They took me to the local hospital, where I recovered from the headache and minor injuries. My head was unhurt but the Bell helmet I'd worn was cracked. I suppose it could be said that I was 'saved by the Bell'.
