When I was riding last weekend a snobbish rider was making a big fuss about his project one black orange trek. The funny part being was VERY similar to my black orange orbea orca....

I'm from Tennessee where we bleed orange, and I just can't get into this paint job. To each his own, I guess. There is nothing wrong with it. It just doesn't grab me. You could sell a million of 'em around here, though, if you made the T in Trek white and a little larger than the other letters.

no you have to see the paint in person...it looks nothing like the sarthe....trust me. The only thing in common is the orange and black but the orange on the trek is much more metallic looking and alot nicer. It also has a hint of yellow mixed in with the orange. I really think it is closer to the orbea Euskaltel? color orange. Trust me. Anyone that sees this bike will not confuse the paint scheme with the Sarthe it is alot sexier. I liked the sarthe and almost bought one but they are two different bikes.

Doesn't look like it's quite the right shade of orange, however.

It's a really bright orange on the Trek 1000. The Sarthe is so classy compared to it, in my opinion, but I lean toward Lemond bikes versus Trek (plus I like steel).
I think it's interesting to see the 2006 Trek paint schemes. They get criticized for boring paint jobs for good reason.
The 2006 Trek 5200 is this dark gray color, and so is the Madone 5.2. Bleh (opinion). The only bike I've seen so far that I like for 2006 at my LBS is the Trek 2200, a kind of fire red color. Oh, actually the Lemond Chambery (sp?) was pretty hot too.

Road a 1000 the other day, just out back of the LBS, pretty spry bike, prices
at around $600, but the brake lever's worried me as I'm use to the shifters on
the down pipe and not part of the brake arrangement, but then I'm riding a bike
that I've own now almost 30 years, so maybe it's time to move up eh?
But from the searches I've done the brakes and shifters on this model leave something
to be desired, how much higher $ wise, up the line in Trek would you need to go to get the better components?

oh, the bike I'm running the streets with is a Schwinn Super le Tour 12.2, I did replace
the brake levers to the hidden cables and that really helped with braking! amazing
difference, thanks to Sheldon Brown, called and spoke with him on what I should do
and being an older bike, the quickest thing was changing out the levers and cables
first and take it from there, also changed out the brake pads as well.

Your right, its not a Vols orange, it is a syracuse orange! Wooohooo. By the way, when did they start to make the 1000 in a superlight? Isn't that an oxymoron?
