KMC X10 EL chain making clicking noises every pedal revolution on left side

After just about 1,800km, it feels as if its prematurely wearing out with the noises even after degreasing and re-lubing it religiously.

I use it for commuting with panniers and the occasional weekend ride. Used a chain checker to check too and it does not seem stretched yet.

Checked the BB without the chain on and it seems to spin still as smooth so I've narrowed down the issue to the chain.

A noise every pedal revolution is unlikely to be caused by the chain, more likely pedals, chainrings or other items which run at crank speed. Try swapping your pedals for a known-quiet pair, preferably platform pedals to eliminate cleat and shoe noises. Also make certain that a shoelace tip (aglet) or front derailleur cable tip is not tapping the crankarm.

So what are we supposed to do or tell you? If you've decided it's the chain, then change the chain regardless of how many miles or kilometers you have on it.

If you are wrong, you now have a spare.

How can the chain make a noise on the left side? Sounds like a pedal or some other issue, crank arm not hitting anything or other unusual issue.

I missed the part about the noise being from the left side.

That aside, I had a similar problem with my triple but only when in the big ring. turned out to be the crank hitting the outside of the cage. Easy fix.

Also check that your chainring bolts are tight.

I don’t think KMC quick links are directional like Wipperman Connex but they may be.
Try reversing your quick link just to see if that could be the culprit?

thanks for the tip! I’ll check those and it’s unusually weird that the chain will wear out so quickly?
