Merry Christmas
Woke up this morning and checked the driveway. No Mercedes or Infinity with a red bow wrapped around it.No shiny red bike in the living room. But I did receive a pair of winter mitten style riding gloves. Now I can't use the excuse my hands get too cold If I can only figure out a way to stop my nose from running.

If I want bike stuff or a car I'll go buy it.

The older I get, the more I come to appreciate Dr. Seuss's wisdom - it's not about the trappings, it's about the values for me. I had the least "Christmas" day ever yesterday - the one local sibling I was going to make dinner for stayed home sick with a wretched cold - which unfortunately I passed on the prior weekend. Stayed home and deep cleaned my kitchen. Binge-watched Six Feet Under, season 1, and took the dog out for a romp mid-day.
And thoroughly enjoyed it.
Planning a great NY weekend - hand will be healed, stiches out, gonna ride NYE and signed up for a NYD 5k fun run.

I had a superb Christmas season this year, full of the music of Christmas (very important to me) and food and fellowship with family and friends. Who needs presents, particularly at this age, when most of us have too much stuff already? Of course, my grandson, who will turn 2 in March, appreciates the material side of things, like the MiniCooper stroller he commutes to preschool in ... .

The whole one-day Christmas thing seems so perfunctory, like a chore rather than something pleasurable to be enjoyed and shared.

All glory to The Universal.
Me, i'm looking forward to a happy campy new year.
edit: just keeping it a cycling comment.

I have no religion so Christmas means not a lot to me, but to all 50+ers, I hope you had a good Christmas and Blwyddyn Newydd Dda to you all.
