WELL WELL did that wake you up from the turkey induced stupor? *giggle*

like many of you I jump on sometimes overpriced 20+ yo bikes without a second thought at times. when it come to an expensive seldom used tool, I vacilllate quite a bit.

last year I spied the Jagwire pad press and hesitated in buying it. then when I did try and buy it was out of stock everywhere. when it came back in stock I pounced! but after receiving it I was dismayed to learn it was redesigned for the new low profile style brakes and not the original Campy brake/blocks.

while this is great tool and quite handy it is unless since I wanted especially for my older brakes.

anyone know where I can find the older style?

I always used a bench vice. A dab of lub on each each side and they slide right in.

Is this is what the original version looked like?

Wonder if the (yellow) pad holder slot can be adapted to hold the vintage pad holders. Maybe a strategically placed plastic spacer or something.

I just learned something to day. I always thought they came joined. I guess being that Bianchigirl wants it for vintage campy. There not easy or cheap to find.

You really need to consider a good bench vise. In comes in handy with the stuck seat post, holding an axle vise for hub adjustments, etc. I mount my truing stand to my bench vise as well.

Just get a good one (the heavier and larger the better). I picked up an industrial vise at a garage sale.

I did a double take when I saw the thread title...thought maybe the wife decided she'd finally had enough of my cyclomania.

+1

One in the garage = happiness.

One in the basement = more happiness.

One at the cabin = total bliss.

All of mine were found at garage sales for a few bucks.

Two of them are Wiltons, and they are fairly pricey new, but not at garage sales.

I mainly use them for our sailboats, but I'm constantly using them for car parts (BMW 2002 tii) and bikes.

Pretty handy when you need an extra set of hands to buff a part as well.

my current work area is not strong enough for a vise. and besides it is bad enough I alredy have my bikes and bench in the livingroom a vise will make it the place look trashy *Giggle*

Same deal here BG.

Mrs. Gomango says no bikes, hand tools, or power tools in the living room.

What's this world coming to anyway?

As a thought though, there are portable work benches with room for a smaller vise.

I guess we all don't need a forty pounder.....

Although I'd never repeat that here at the house!
