1971 Schwinn Super Sport with Brooks Saddle and Extras


This vintage beauty was made in Chicago and is 100% original but I did put new Panaracer Pasela tires on it. The bike is the 22" version and in good working condition and it looks barely ridden.

I have the identical model, even the same size, that I bought new in 1987. It is a great riding bike. Yes I have short legs, but NO it isn't "pink." "Maroon" would be my description of it. The only adjustment I've made over the years is to add fenders.

The fork might be correct. It looks to have the correct bend and Ishiwata decal. It's possible it was taken from another RB-1 or it's what was available off the shelf at the time it was replaced. If anyone checks this out it would be wise to look closely for frame damage.

This bike was taken down to bare frame which measures 23" with 32" standover and is Ishiwata triple-butted EX tubing. It was cleaned, masked and touched up with matching color. Regreased bottom bracket, replaced headset bearings, new brake cables and housings. New Cool Stop Salmon brake pads. The components are all Shimano except for Sugino crank. The Araya 700C wheels were taken apart and relaced with vintage Shimano 600 sealed bearing hub--super smooth and great looking high end hubs--and trued and tensioned by LBS. To these were mounted new Fyxation 32c white tires. New white Origin 8 bar tape and a vintage white San Marcos saddle in excellent shape finished the build. Please note that the lights and U-lock bracket pictured do not come with the bike. I have close to the asking price in time and parts into this bike. We inherited this road bike when our beloved Uncle Frank, a biking fanatic, passed away from brain cancer in late 2012. He rode this bike all over New England with great joy. It has many, many happy miles on it. It is clearly from a different era - our research puts it around 1987 or 1988. It is a classic, no doubt.

12 gears. Toe cage pedals just added. Chain on works and shifts great.

Little sack under the seat to carry some essentials.

Two metal water bottle cages.

A digital mileage monitor that still seems to be working.

Maybe you want to restore it to its former glory and show off your vintage hip style. Maybe you want to grab some parts off of it.

We are not trying to make money from this sale. If we aren't going to ride it (Frank was tall, and so is his bike!) then we want to sell it and donate any money received to Frank's favorite charity of his last 2 years of his life, the Mass General Brain Cancer Research Center.
