Off to a good start!

42 miles Sunday night, between a group ride and the ride to and from. Exhausted but worth it.

I love the polar bottles as well
someone showed me a trick, put enough water in the bottle so when you lay it on its side it does not leak out, then put bottle (laying on its side) in freezer over night. when you're ready for your ride fill the rest of bottle with water. now the ice is from the top to bottom of the bottle. Works for me.

Five hours of driving for three hours of riding/poking around/snapping photos. Put in thirty some miles on one of Minnesota's premier cycling destinations. Sky was overcast all morning, so the photos are kind of blah, but that is some beautiful country down there.

Of course, I wandered off the trail and poked around wherever there was something interesting to see. Here is a short, visual synopsis:



















The section I rode, between Rushford and Lanesboro, was flat and smooth for most of its length. There is a short section west of Rushford that has a few cracks and bumps, but it smooths out after the first couple of miles. There are plenty of places to stop and rest, have a picnic, or whatever; and the little towns all have something to offer the hungry or thirsty cyclist. Highly recommended...

Thanks canklecat I am not as tired or sore as I thought I'd be at all! I think I may opt for different handlebars, but don't know what exactly that will take. I did have a rotator cuff "injury" from working in a warehouse and I worked really hard with the physical therapy, and also started the strength-training. The arm got back to 100%, but I noticed some aching last night off and on during the night.

I think the putting so much weight, when leaning on the bars did it. It turns out maybe the toughest part of me is going to be my beeeeeehind. Maybe from sitting on it so many years,

abyn, +1 on the good start. One's bottom gets tougher, believe it or not. And riding technique can relieve the shoulders and arms.

For the arm/shoulder there's a wonderful, inexpensive patch called SALONPAS. About $3.45 at Walmart for 40 patches. It's an analgesic (asprin) patch good for several hours. I don't leave home without it.
Uh, for your behind, just keep riding. It'll toughen up.

20 miles on the Allez today. Most of it @15-17mph, some bursts of 22mph. I just can't maintain those over 20mph speeds for very long (just not really 28 anymore). A good ride.

Actually I put one on my shoulder in the morning just before I ride. It's good for 8 hours. But I suppose nightime would work too.

18.1 Miles on the Roubaix. I wore a jacket again, too much after 45 mins. 56° to 72° quickly. Ordered a new long sleeve cycle shirt from Amazon (couldn't find any my size on ebay).

Forty miles to and from a local landmark in the desert north of Fruita, Colorado; a plant that stores and apparently refines gasoline and LP gas. The contrast between the irrigated farmland and the dry of the desert couldn't be more dramatic.

That's beautiful. We're planning a biking vacation in September from Colorado to Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois, and that is high on my list. More so now that I've seen your pictures.

Wow, did I ride today, 9 PR's and a KOM while recovering from 2 cracked ribs and a broken R clavicle. Almost 40 miles, whew.... I gave it my best and it shows.

21 miles bike commuting today. Hot and humid on the ride home but again enjoyed cold water most of the way home, thanks to ice in the bottom of the Polar bottle.

15 miles strength training on my road bike. Heat index was 100 degrees, it was sweltering humidity even at 1 hour to sunset when I started the ride, and the only breeze available was the one my bike and I created, so rocketing down the slopes at 30 mph was lovely. I drank my entire bottle of water - one sip every 2 miles. I swallowed about 4 bugs, too, while attacking the upward slopes with mouth open for rapid fill/exhale of the lungs.

I think I may need to learn how to power up hills with my mouth closed....

Treated myself to a delicious vanilla/orange sherbet ice cream cone when I got back home.

No riding for me since Sunday, when I took a short trip over the handlebars. I set out for a rare Sunday morning ride, planning maybe 50 miles or so. At Mile 15, I was momentarily distracted by, of all things, the ears on the Bassett Hound that a woman was taking for a walk, and didn't see the hole in the pavement. Before I knew it I was on my way down and I knew I was going to plant on my shoulder.

I hit hard but I managed to roll over as I fell and I think that lessened the blow. My shoulder was VERY sore and I was sure I'd really injured it, but after giving it a minute or two I got up and checked my range of motion and, while it was pretty sore, the shoulder felt fairly solid and wasn't making any funny noises.

I did some field repair on my bent derailleur and rode home 11 miles. When I got home, my shoulder looked like this:



I had a few other bumps and bruises, but I decided I didn't need to go to the ER. The shoulder is pretty sore and stiff, but it's slowly getting better. I hope to ride this weekend.

OUCH! (Been there, done that, double fracture of the pelvis). I'd highly recommend SALONPAS (analgesic, like asprin) patches for the next few days. It'll help with the pain in the shoulder. Or better yet, LIDOCAINE 5% patches (if you can get them).

Only 16.8 miles today on the Tarmac. Got down to the dental clinic, impressions taken, left the broken lower plate, and still got dressed and out by 9:10AM. Just didn't seem to have a lot of energy.

I certainly hope the lady with the basset came running over to help you up. At least that way you could have seen the basset's ears up close and personal.

No riding for me today. Heat index is at 103F, and the sun is brutal. Have a barbeque to go to this evening (eating indoors I'm praying), so taking the evening off from my bike.
