I was riding at a medium pace up a steep hill then out of nowhere these two at least fifty something couple totally blew past me. I am still trying to figure out if they were aided by motors or not all the way home. I know I am fat but I am now in much better shape but these people look too old to be this strong. This has never happened to me before.

Well, sorry, I didn't mean to insult you when I passed. I'm an old fart who rides an ebike, I've passed a few guys on hills. I typically use the assist for hills and not much more, it depends on the length of the ride, wind and my time. So, we're not cheating, were gaining nothing by passing you, we're just out having a ride, else we'd probably be sitting in our recliners watching TV instead of riding. I don't post on Strava, or brag about my times or claim it was 'all me'.

Blame the bike. That way you can justify buying a new one everytime you get passed by someone fitter than you. That may get expensive fast.

Let's put in terms you might get- hills are a lot more forgiving of extra years than they are of extra kilos.

JFC. The only thing worse than a thread about how many people you pass, is one complaining about people passing you.
Are all cyclists this insecure?
Holy ****...and here come the cool guys. “I’m 97 and I pass fat 13 year old riding to middle school”.
Gross.

Every day a winding road

Just accept the fact that there are people older than you that are better than you and it will likely always be that way. There are a lot more important things to worry about than worry hat someone else is doing.

Can we get this topic moved to the 50-something subcategory?
Or the Clydesdale subcategory?
This is a fun Youtube video.
When you get to the end, you'll really see the difference between a heavy fit person, and a twig fit person.

The real question is "did they wave as they passed you?"

I don't so much mind getting passed by other riders. It's getting passed by the joggers while I'm doing a climb.

This post just reminded me of a tip I’d like to share for all of us over 50. If you use an aluminum collapsing cane it can easily be fixed to the top tube with bungee chords. The tennis ball can be transported in the spokes.

Non omnino gravis
I see an older couple on a pair of matching Townie 8i all the time. They look like they're having a blast. There's a local older guy on a Stromer ST1X that consistently saves his Strava activities as "Bike Ride," and therefore takes down about twenty KOMS per ride. I've lately started to see more e-MTBs than regular MTBs-- out on the road, that is. This is probably because the e-crowd doesn't see the need to drive the 3-5 miles to the trailhead. Their bike has a motor.
But I have NEVER seen a road bike with a motor, or a e-bike of any kind that wasn't immediately identifiable as an e-bike. The Stromer is a prime example. Or anything mid-drive. They're also loud.
Just know this: I don't have a motor, and my aggregate average climbing speed is something like 9mph (sub-700 VAM)-- so if I pass you up a hill, you are slow.

When you are right, you are right, and Rydabent in this case is right on target. Why give a darn about what other people ride?
What is it with the obsessive worrying about if someone else rides faster unless it is a race?
