The Race Video Thread!

This is a race video right? Indulge me as I was going through some old stuff lately.
I wished they were as concerned about PED testing. That was about an 85" gear - that is all he could push, and easy to see it was not going to be over. But we do roll-outs!
At the time, turns out this was the only age 8 licensed road rider in the USA. There was a computer glitch that allowed it for cx. It was reported and fixed. Daniel snuck through - legally of course, and when asked if the license needed to be revoked they said let him race.

Jackson Crit from last year (going through some old footage)
It's a neat course, but nobody really showed up (only 20 people) because the race hadn't been run in 30 years and it's an hour east of Stockton. Still, it's a neat course.

What quality do you guys film in? Is 1080 too small or grainy at speed? Looking at a gopro hero session 4 which is on sale (shoots 1080 at 60fps), but wondering if I'd need a session 5 (has the 1080 at 90fps, or 2.7 and 4k HD) just to get decent enough quality vids (license plates, night crits, etc). I don't know what the differences would be on a practical level, just want clear enough video.

I think 1080p is plenty.
4k would be neat, but:
- the videos would be huge; uploads times would in turn also be huge
- not many people can actually watch a 4k video in 4k yet

example night-time vid:
These two videos have been put through VIRB, which downgrades the bits/second quality somewhat. I think you need 1080p at least for clear daytime license plates. I have the cycliq, and the plates are not always clear (720p). More FPS in my opinion is only useful for slomo (crashes). I like the future-proofing of 4K. In the future 1080p will look much worse. However to use 4K I sacrifice battery life. The session 5 is $199, or at least it was in January.

Yes, my uploads are huge. Stitching an hour long video takes perhaps 8 hours. Then putting in a power overlay is going to be at least another 8 hours if not more. A vid can easily be 30 gigabytes. Luckily there is a huge demand for 4K cycling vids as demonstrated by my 75 subs, and $0 made.

what do you guys use to export the video files? i've been using the virb edit, but friend of mine tells me the compiler is crap on that software, and that I should use something else..
what's something that's easy to use, and can add text captions and maybe some music or background sounds?

To put in the overlay I do use VIRB edit as the 2nd step. I have a friend that uses Dashware (he saves a step by creating the overlay first and putting everything together at once in Adobe premiere (he pays the monthly fee for the full version of premiere). I can't get Dashware to work on my computer.

Valley of the Sun pro/1 crit - my first time averaging 30 mph for an hour!

and HOW do you burn so many matches in the race and still have enough at the end? do you just race a lot, or do a lot of intervals?

Avg power was 240w, normalized was 272w. (max 1,138w)
As for the 2nd question, I don't do many intervals, but I do race a lot. However I usually do intervals in Feb/March, force reps or tabattas, but not very consistently.

Not my vid, but my teammate's. He came really close to winning a big local p/1/2 RR.
Also, a guy hits a mailbox early in the vid. Heard he broke his leg maybe? Damn.
Sounds like mailbox dude hit a rock and lost control.

@spdntrxi here’s the VoS crit with data:
Posted the full video bc someone asked for it. I never thought anyone would want that, but I guess people watch these while on the trainer, makes sense.

I've watched Jeff's video like 5 times and I'm sad every time when the gold wheel peeks into frame.

the winner was chris reikert. note that you don't see him or his wheels ever ahead of our teammate until ~.125 seconds from the line. That guy is legit, and he played it right. Wisely saw our teammate as the likely guy to follow, unfortunately.

Perfect spot to make that move, you can generate a ton of wattage on those roller sprints and its hard to respond to. Good video, really makes me miss racing.
