110 degrees sounds to me like a 50 watt derating. But hey, what do I know.

I have never liked tests per se. Tests make some humans anxious and others are good at taking tests and scoring. I think one can look at data at z4, z5 and z6 and get a better idea of FTP. If one is consistently hitting the top end of the ranges for higher end power zones then it is time to raise FTP. If you have no idea of those metrics because you are not doing any z4 z5 or z6 efforts, then maybe you need to...or not.

I agree with this 100%. I've also botched my last 3 tests (asthma attack, broke derailleur, heat).

Doing an FTP test at 110 degrees up a hill sounds like a recipe for heat stroke!

90mins today, 3x20@ 88% with 30sec @ 150% to start each interval, got an orange jersey on zwift for my efforts (although beating 17 people shouldn't really count lol)

So sick of the heat and piss poor air quality. Getting to the point where I feel like I'll be grateful for ski season again.

did 75mins today of anaerobic intervals, it was 15sec @ 180%, 30sec @ 176%, 45sec @ 155% and 60sec @ 150% then in reverse, 3 sets of these, 102tss 0.9 IF. Got through it with no difficulty, which is always good

Thanks. It's hard not to focus on the 1 minute I'm giving up from when I was really on it a year ago, but perspective is good.

I don't get to play on strava much anymore, but today was fun - 212k attempts!

Won the Tuesday night ride. First time doing that. Some of the best I've felt on a bike in quite a while, which was a surprise. Temperatures are still way up there and orange air quality, but I went outside anyways since there was free pizza waiting at the end.

I'd planned to ride to work this morning, but got up, got dressed, got downstairs and my front tire was flat. That killed any motivation, so I went upstairs, changed and just drove in. Glad I did since I guess they started a ton of road construction on the only way I can go to get to work and it was dangerous enough driving.

I didn't win the Tuesday Night Ride but I was one of the strongest out there and first up the hill. Its 3 loops, I always lose about 10-15 seconds on the 2 mile descent, and on the climbs I closed down every break. I'm just not strong enough to do that stuff and win, the wheel suckers who did zero work got me by about 10 seconds. I know I know, they're smart I'm dumb but the thing is its a training ride so you should be a bit more animated imo. A couple watts under my best 5 minute power but I attribute that to group dynamics....I felt pretty fresh the whole ride.

Its a soft week with the Juniors at Nats and our pro at the Tour of Utah, but it still feels good to put in solid work!

I've been doing a horrible job managing training and life (work really because I don't have any other kind of life) stress and because I have more dollars than sense, I've jumped on the Whoop (www.whoop.com) bandwagon. Anyone else using/tried it? I've only had it for two days and can see it's potential for generating an life in general TSS vs just bike TSS.

It was raining on the drive home last night, so I got on the trainer in the garage. Did my first set of intervals and was dying from the heat. (There isn't much more I can do to keep it cooler in there.) But then I looked out and saw the sun was out and roads were dry, so I put on a jersey and helmet, and finished my workout in the neighborhood.

did 6x3min @ 118%, getting better (i.e. able to survive 3 mins as opposed to wanting to die after 2) but still a couple of challenges after 2mins. was intending to do this in non-erg mode, but it ended up in erg mode anyway, was really curious to see if I could have any more success that way, maybe next time

It looks interesting. Let's see how it works in practice.

needed the noon ride to go fast today, so I made it fast whenever the slugs tried to slow it down.

145tss in 139 total ride time.

Crashed mtb racing last night. Rear through axle didn'tt get tightened down and the wheel wandered in a soft corner. Down I went, bars at a 45 degree angle means a dnf. I'm fine, bikes fine, just embarassing and I was doing well at that point.

Today, just a recovery ride.

Despite having my best power numbers progressively every month, my structure has been terrible. I do rest weeks, hard days, and easy days but there are no plans on those hard days so they end up lackluster (except group rides).

This next block I'm focusing on FTP; I'd like to finally break 300 for 20, I've also got a few more races (with elevation) planned this year and it would be nice to be on the top step.

Lost some volume to a work trip to France. Rode as a small commute to/from each day for 8mi each way. Way to work was downhill. Way home was about 650 to 700ft in 8mi. Well, most of it in the middle 3 miles. Took a weekend in Alsace to ride and tour around. Did a few 30ish minute efforts on some longer climbs and good rides.

Time to regain some structure though. I want to hit an honest 20 min at 300w by year end. I've done it for 8 min recently on the trainer. So I know with executing another plan I should be able to.

I'm ecstatic about my VAM during some of those climbs compared to 6 months ago. Wonders of more power and less weight. I hit 1100 on some 7% stuff for some pretty good amounts of time. Nothing super impressive compared to you guys/gals, but it felt good chewing up elevation like I hadn't done before.

It was also fun to have French folks roll by in cars on the way up and roll the windows down and mess with you a little. Grab a couple gears for a few seconds and get out of the saddle for them.

Not training related, but caught Sunday of the TdF in Paris on the way home:

I do not understand the hard day comment. How do you know a hard day is hard without setting a goal to make it what you think is hard?
