Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Benefits of look keo blades over the look keo original shape?

I have really been interested in the keo blades but dont want to spend the $ if there isn't much beneift. My logic tells me that it is a larger platform for your feet which might be more comfortable?

thanks

There isn't much benefit. The blades have a larger platform by a little bit. They are not more comfortable or easier to click into. The only benefits are weight, which is barely reduced on the CrMo models, and a lower profile for a theoretic reduction in pedal strikes during cornering. I personally find the fragile carbon blades to outweigh any of the "advantages".

There have been issues with the carbon blade - they warranty it, but that's time w/out your pedals. I still tell people to look at the exustar 200 ti model. It's lighter and I've had mine for over 2 years with zero issues (look keo compatible).

I ride Keo Blades on my primary bike and Keo 2 Max Carbon on my backup bike... there is no discernible difference between the two. Silvercivic27 summed it up best, though I don't find the blades to be fragile, nor have I had any warranty issues.

Well there ya go - logic? You should know better, this is the 41. Leave your logic at the door.

Having tried both, I "settled" on the Keo 2 Max Carbon as I couldn't tell the difference except my wallet stayed a little thicker. While there's a real, though insignificant, weight difference, the only tangible benefit is actually an intagible - you get to say, "Yeah, I have the Keo Blades, and it's got that carbon, um, blade thingy."

I would be riding the carbon max if i didnt get the blades for free...weight is the difference. Have the max on my other bike.

People like to see this stuff in action, so free product plus it helps to be able to tell people what your experience has been with the product you have actually used. Imagine that.

Not worth the hassle if the blade breaks. If you want lighter pedal get some Keo 2 Max and then some Ti spindles from Ward for $60. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Titanium-Spi...item33778ee159

Note: they say they don't fit Keo 2 Max pedals but they actually do.

I hear the Time iClick's are a similar idea. I recently picked up a set and like them. They were cheap at $55 from Real Cyclist.

yes, the Time iClic is a similar leaf spring solution. I've put about 1,000 miles on a pair of iClic2 Carbon and no problems at all.*

*actually, all pedals on my cranks (SRAM Rival) will creak like a mofo if they are slightly lose. I've had CB Candy and Eggbeaters prior to the Time pedals and it happens with all of them, after a few dozen hours of riding. I do have the pedal washers installed and the pedals are greased. I've actually tried teflon tape as well! I've resigned myself to tightening the pedals every time I thoroughly clean the drivetrain, it's about the same interval.
