Counterpoint to "what crazy stuff did someone shout at you from a car" thread.

I'll start it off; climbing slowly up a steep hill in the bike lane, a car cuts in front of me and drives up the bike lane to the intersection, as if to turn right. They get stuck at the crosswalk, right next to the sign that says NO RIGHT TURN. So when I catch up to them and am stuck because they are now basically parked in the bike lane and there's a line of cars to the left of us in the actual car travel lane, I shout:

"ARE YOU ILLITERATE?!" and point to the sign, and then punctuate my statement with my Airzoundz.

This morning on a congested 4 lane arterial, in the lane, after 2 light cycles at an intersection with another 4 lane arterial, stopping at the crosswalk for a third red, car that's behind me reves his engine, pulls up besides me in the right turn lane, yells "A-hole" and blows the red straight through the intersection..
Flabbergasted, I yell back "freak".

I don't see how yelling would help in any situation.

I don't really yell, but an occasional, out loud, and sincere "I hope you get where you're going" goes out to all the people who do stupid things.

I see people getting frothingly angry when they have to delay a second or two to pass me, or are frustrated by me stopping at a stop sign, or when I take the lane because something is on my preferred path.

If it's that easy to set someone off, they're pretty far off balance to begin with. I really feel bad for those folks. They must have horrible lives.

That's funny. I always think the opposite; the thought that goes through my head is "How great/easy is your life that waiting 3 seconds so you don't kill me causes you to absolutely loose your s**t?"

I generally do not yell at motorists in cars, as their windows are up most of the time. I mutter stuff all the time, but rarely yell.

This one time I'm on a very narrow road near the office, curb/gutter on both sides and barely 20 feet pavement width. I approached a 4-way stop, and this dude comes up on my left, on the left side of the road, to stop at the stop sign beside me. He was still rolling, and completely blocking the oncoming side of the road. His windows were down and I yelled "NO! You stay back!!" and had my left arm pointing out and back. He got the picture and stayed behind me until he had to turn.

Another time I was on a residential road, crossing a 3-lane collector road, going straight across. A car on the other side stopped before me, but had no signal on, so I assumed he was going straight and so I went on to go straight across. He then starts pulling out a bit to turn left after I pass him, and his window was also down. So I yelled "turn signals would be nice!" and went on.

when I get buzzed I shout "Hey". I can usually get it off while the rear of the car is still next to me and so if I yell loudly I know they can hear me. gone are the days of getting buzzed with impunity. I recently rolled up to a guy who buzzed me who got caught in line at an intersection, actually he rolled along side me reeeeeaaaal close then accelerated away. he could see I was approaching so get this, he turned his head like he was looking at something to avoid contact with me, but I stopped at his passenger window and waited for him to notice me, but haha he purposely kept looking out his window. but traffic wasn't going anywhere so I tapped on his window, he acted surprised and rolled down his window, he seemed nice enough, middle aged chinese guy driving through concord, he had golf gloves on his passenger seat, whatever, so I said: "you got pretty close to me back there" and he said "oh, oh, I didn't know" ... so lame ... so I said "let's keep your eyes on the road ok?" he just stared at me. as I rolled past the line some guy in a pu truck a few cars ahead yelled out his window "F**K YOU YUPPIE" I just kept going. lol, yuppie, what decade are you from? can't you notice I'm not a young upcoming anything anymore? good grief

I talk to myself about their latest faux pas, but I've yet to find any situation in which yelling at someone helps matters. Too many nut jobs out there for me to push the limits of their sanity.

I'm another one who mutters rather than yells (with two exceptions I can remember in the last six years). Favorite grumblings include:

Hang up and drive!

Wow, you managed to pass a bicycle in your car.

Maybe when you trade in your Mercedes you can get a car with working turn signals.

Well yeah I do yell "HEY!" if someone buzzes me. Thankfully that happens so rarely that I can't even remember the last time I yelled it.

Also the 3 close calls I've had in 3 years (yes only 3) I yelled something like "hey watch it!" or similar.

To get attention, "HEY!!!" real, real loud.

To make a point, "WHAT THE F' ARE YOU DOING?!?" In an urban milieu, it gets passersby staring at the offender in question like they did something wrong, which they usually did to elicit such a shout from me.

If someone yells something at me, "ACHDORNFLNRDARGLE!!" with a thumbs-up. Either that, or a big, stupid grin and a flailing wave.

I don't really yell either as it wouldn't be heard. I do shake my head if they passed to closely or passed when another car was coming from up ahead.

I will say, "Go around, you can do it," to overly cautious drivers, but I not to where they can hear and I don't motion them because I'd rather them be cautious than me tell them to make a bad move.

Stuff like" Jesus loves you" , tends to disarm them. Or, " Your brake light is out" distracts them. Mostly a very loud "Yo" to get their attention.

I don't yell at cars, because it makes me look like an idiot. I'll mutter at them which is just as idiotic, but that way at least I'm not advertising it.

Most days I don't have any reason to yell, but when I have to I've recently found my self yelling "Pay attention!". This is quite toned down from what I used to yell, I guess because I'm more mature? wiser? worn down? I don't know.

"THANK YOU!" - with all the sarcasm I can layer on ...

Got right hooked on my motorcycle some years back. Rode up beside the dude at an intersection further up the road and his window was down.

Me: "You know you could have killed me back there, right" (overly politely)

Them: "Mumble mumble sorry mumble." (said while looking like kid caught flushing sister's stuffies down the toilet)

Me: "Please be more careful next time. Thanks. Have a nice day" (Green light and go)

I find extremely polite and articulate to really put people off balance when they expect/deserve profanity and a tongue lashing.

I stopped yelling etc. at everyone/everything a while ago. It ruins my ride.

I yell HEY if they're about to cross my path without right of way. Most recently was a sheriff deputy in a cruiser who rolled a stop without lights or siren.
