2018 Pedal the Parkway, Williamsburg Virginia, 5 May

On 5 May they are closing an 8 mile section of the Colonial Parkway, Jamestown to Williamsburg, from automobile traffic for the 21st Pedal the Parkway event. Open only for bikers, hikers, and runners. Family friendly, local bike shops providing mechanics at each end. Refreshments at midpoint.
Search pedal the parkway for more info.

Rode this yesterday; what a great event! Very well organized and supported, especially for a free event!
Lots of volunteers, and support from USNPS, and local agencies.

Wide range of participants, from little kids to B-pace sporting groups. Lots of families.

We rode Williamsburg-Jamestown-Williamsburg, visited the 1607 Jamestown Settlement, and back to Colonial Williamsburg for lunch.
If you ride from Williamsburg, it helps to have a geared bike, all the hills are at that end, otherwise it's a flat route along the river. Lots of places to hop off and explore the shore , check out the wildlife and take pictures.

First major outing for the tandem/tag-a-long rig, it's a good way to bring a kiddo along on a ride that might be a little beyond their reach if they were riding solo. Plus, it's a booster engine for the hills.

Yes, we had a great time on the ride. Supported the effort by buying two of the Pedal the Parkway shirts. We only went 8 miles. From the Jamestown end to the halfway point and back. It was great getting some trailmix and a banana at the rest stop. Some friends we met up with did almost 40 miles there and the Capital Trail Saturday. The kiddee trailer pulled easily.

I was there also. I did the Williamsburg - Jamestown - Williamsburg route. It was really nice having the whole road to ourselves (no cars) and being able to take our time and take lots of pics.
The rest stop halfway was set up very well, having water and energy foods to eat. I'll post some pics as soon as I get enough posts.
