Charging a Garmin while in use question

On long rides (300K and up) I need to recharge my Garmin Edge Touring while I am using it. Unfortunately, after the charge is made, it wants to shut down. If I refuse the shut down, it goes to main menu. Anybody have a solution to this? I'm charging it with a GoPuck external battery.

Sounds like an oddity in the Touring OS. My 1000 doesn't do this

on the 500, it takes a special cable. Maybe the same on the touring?

@unterhausen

He is spot on. I have the 520 and if I don't use the Garmin cable it will charge but it will do funny things sometimes. Try using the Garmin branded cable and see if that makes a difference if you haven't already. Otherwise I am not sure what the deal is. Is the software and whatnot all up to date?

If the Touring is like the 800, you could just hit the back button from the main menu to get back to where you were before the charge finished.

Although they're not alike, because my 800 just notes charging is done (for a while) and keeps on going.

Thanks for the suggestions. What I've tried so far based on your feedback is to use the original cable (what I used on the rides was a shorter length knock-off) plugged into the power source in a vehicle, with the Garmin recording. I pulled the cord out and still got the screen that says it will shut off in 10 seconds. I selected "x" to nullify that and it took me back to the ride in progress. Don't know if that tells me anything, but at least it's progress. Next step is to try it on the bike with the GoPuck.(raining today).
