I am thinking about getting the Bontrager Ion 800 R / Flare R Light Set for my bike so I can get some early morning riding before the hot of the day. Anyone have any thoughts on these, anything else I should be looking at? I guess the only downside is going to have to remember to charge them with the USB each night after riding.

I'm a fan of hub dynamo powered lights for their lack of needing to remember to charge them

but as a 'be seen' light, that should be adequate..

I think it looks like a pretty good set. A bit expensive for not having a shaped beam such as the Specialized Flux Expert.

I like the rechargeables. Easy enough to just plug them in when one gets home. And, never have to worry about the batteries going dim, or the light suddenly cutting out because it thought the batteries were too low.

The "fast charge" with the Light&Motion light still takes a few hours, but not 6 hors as listed for the Bont.

If you look at the run times, both light hare a relatively short run time on high. I usually ride on the 3rd setting in hopes of not running the battery down too far. The 4th setting on the Light&Motion light is a high/low pulse which I find quite annoying. Sometimes I'll bump up to high for fast descents.

I've come to really dislike Android chargers. Much too touchy. I don't know for sure what Bont uses.

For my bikes that do not have dyno powered lighting, I prefer AA or AAA powered lights, if I am riding when I might need the light I carry spare batteries. Or I recall once stopping at a Walgreens to buy some AA batteries to use to get home when I forgot my spares. I used to have good luck with Eneloop rechargeable AA and AAA batteries, but I recently switched to Ikea Ladda NiMH rechargeable AA and AAA batteries as they seem to work a bit better than my 10 year old Eneloops..

I Suppose with a USB integrated battery headlight you might get 2 since the battery is not removable.

If you work in front of a computer all day long there is your 6 hour on the job charge time..

there are Mains to USB wall outlets and adapters to plug into your wall outlet too ..
