Living in the US close to Quebec border ?

Hi,
I would like to get in contact with someone living in the US close to the Quebec border. For example near Derby Lines, Newport, Champlain, etc.
You can contact me privately or thru this thread as you wish.

Thank you

The only time I got shafted a little was when I chose UPS as a method of delivery when ordering from Niagaracycle. When I chose USPS, I didn't pay as much for the brokerage fee. I can't remember exactly but I believe USPS if they charged me anything at all might have been $5 brokerage fee (plus duty of course). UPS charged me something like $55 more (total of $89.10) for fees. I was truly shocked because this was a relatively small order.

I believe what UPS charges is criminal.

How far are you from the US border? It may be cheaper to drive and buy for yourself what you need.

Its about a five to six hour drive from Montreal. Closer if you live near New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine as opposed to New York.

The exhorbiting fees, duties and taxes are exactly the reason why I am looking for a US address I could have the cycling goods delivered to. And I would pick them up when I go for a ride or a hike in Vermont or New York state. If anyone is willing to help !

It does happen that sites like roadrunner have sales on Brooks shoes that they can't export to Canada because of "shipping restrictions". But I don't plan on online purchases for a long time.

I think footlocker or some other site like that has shipping restrictions as well.

I have a friend that lives just outside Stanstead in Beebe, right on the Vermont border. Many years ago,(like 40 or so) I used to go hunting small game with him, and we would walk freely over the border in the woods, unobserved.
Not advocating that as a means of importing your goodies, and I don't know if things are still as lax in that area. Probably not.

From my home in Montreal, I can drive to the closest US border points in less than 1 hour

Then its probably cheaper to drive to a bike shop on the US side, buy what you need and come home - if the value is less than you would pay in Canada with federal and provincial GST.

And don't forget to include the cost of a round trip tank of gas.

The border may only be close, but there are not necessarily any bike shops close to the border crossings and it isn't possible to buy things in the US and cross back without paying import charges on items that cost more than about $40. If you get caught you can have the items you purchased confiscated and have to pay a hefty fine
