And Haha. Just because it is such a popular target. I just told Dave in Colorado (AMCO) that I tend to avoid those bikes that have a large following! Paramounts, Allez, most Treks, Peugeot’s, Motobecane and some Italian staples. Fujis, Miyatas, Schwinns in general, et al...
Nothing rational other than I rode a 70s Raleigh Mark something and thought it was terrible. (In the early 80s).
Have not yet built the 1987 P Super Comp yet.

I was lucky on my Mondia . The chrome and paint were nice so I took it easy while riding dirt. It is now set up for road.

It's a perfect candidate for 650b conversion, but I'm guessing 700x35s will fit. The serial number says 1971. If the chrome won't clean up, you can always find some other way to highlight those beautiful lugs:

If it were another one (Raleigh) I’d have passed. I’ve been mildly interested in an early International. For the flexibility as a CV gravel bike of sorts. The clearance in the seat tube with 700c wheels intrigued me.

In '71, Champagne and Chartreuse. The classic copper/orange color came later. There's nothing unique about the stem. Mine made a great gravel bike. @noglider has a '74 that won't take wider tires, so you're good. Maybe start by throwing parts you have on it and decide what you want to change. Mine morphed into that mode and I tried various routes and changed componentry to suit where and how I was riding.
So 22.2 stem helps a lot. I don’t want the original stuff other than the headset and BB. Hopefully someone will have need of it to offset the exorbitant cost outlay...haha.
The seatpost is a darn shorty so that will move on. And the saddle. Might install my first Brooks on it! I have three, two old and one new that I had yet to move on. See what the ado is about!
Interestingly, PO called it a 56 but it is 54.5 CTC. More Mad Honk sized than Jdawg sized...

An International is on my short list because of the versatility it seems to offer. Getting one as just a frame is a bonus so as to not pay for the costly Campy bits that probably won’t be used in many builds. The price was right as you mentioned. In researching these, the Gran Sport also dishes up most of the same 531 goodness as the Intetnational.

While I have my fair share of well loved classics (Paramount, Allez, PX10,Trek, etc) I also ended up doing the inverse: instead of avoiding the bikes people love, I somehow ended up loving the bikes people avoid

I don’t have names, but the A-D would have to be Hans. Always masculine colors and built in that sort of Germanic solidity. OP bike would be just one size small for me I believe.

When I got the frame I had most of the original era components in the bin so I threw all that on it and enjoyed riding it around NYC - way more comfortable than my Mercian Pro. I strayed off-road and it proved capable in the dirt so I wanted changes to accommodate the riding style. A modern drivetrain was my first priority. I spread the stays and rebuilt the rear with a 11-32 cassette on a beautiful high-flange Sun XCD freehub to keep it classy. PlanetX "Holdsworth" 48/34 double, Microshift R10 changers and brifters. Rene Herse Bon Jon Pass tires, Mafac Racers, Nitto Noodles and a smooth Gran Compe stem. Brooks C17 Cambium Carved for a while but as I rode more trails, I switched to a B17 Imperial Flyer, oh so cushy over the rough stuff. Soon enough I added a rack and rando bag, VO fenders, and a dynamno hub and lights. Eventually a chrome Raleigh Pro Mk I frame came my way. I transplanted everything over to that, and the International became an upright commuter to replace my too-small and very hefty Raleigh Sports.

Frame made in 1971. Sure looks like an International to me. I have a 1974 that sloar quite generously permitted me to purchase from him. It's my liveliest rider, and the geometry makes it very versatile. I'd be interested in the brake lever assemblies if you decide you really don't want them. Not my size, or I'd offer to buy it from you if you decide not to keep it.

Is there something going around? I, er, somehow ended up with a Comp GS last week..... The chrome on it (forks, especially) looked worse than this one and I was pretty stunned at how effective the tin-foil-&-water-scrub worked to bring it back. I'm having the same sort of 'hmm, what am I going to do with this thing' thoughts about it. I wish it were an International...

Mine is a 74, did not ride it much since I built it but it takes 37mm tires front and rear. Running a 3x10 withe a corncob cassette 14x25

Exactly what I was thinking. After I clean it up, I was going to build as a gravel guy and use more modern parts I have on hand to put on it and see what we have.
So 22.2 stem helps a lot. I don’t want the original stuff other than the headset and BB. Hopefully someone will have need of it to offset the exorbitant cost outlay...haha.
The seatpost is a darn shorty so that will move on. And the saddle. Might install my first Brooks on it! I have three, two old and one new that I had yet to move on. See what the ado is about!
Interestingly, PO called it a 56 but it is 54.5 CTC. More Mad Honk sized than Jdawg sized...

If you will recall the cranberry colored Raleigh that left here for MA was that size and even though I could ride it, it moved on. The ride was not a special one for me. Maybe just a bit heavier than I am used to, but I looked it in the head-badge and told it I was sending it away. It has been replaced by a Trek 950 from AMCO, and a Basso Loto from Shop Dog Bikes. A pretty fair trade for me. But Alas, Another N+1 deal. Smiles, MH
