Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

same here! So basically my user name means I don't really care what the people of the internet think about me enough to come up with a clever handle to use on the bikeforums

A Heathpack is a clump of heather (as in the flowering plant). No, my name is not Heather IRL. I like the word because it is the name of something beautiful but it's not at all girly-sounding. I also don't like pink on my bike stuff. Although I like pink otherwise, go figure.

I took the word from a poem called Inversnaid by a guy named Gerard Manly Hopkins. Inversnaid is a town in the Scottish highlands, on Loch Lomand. The poem is kind of remarkable, it's describing a little waterfall & brook outside of the town of Inversnaid and if you read it aloud, the poem sounds like a little brook bubbling along. Itlooks very simple but its a technically very impressive poem and the first poem where I finally "got" all that. It was kind of a game-changer for me, I went on after that to pretty seriously study modern poetry. Now I am a veterinarian but my first love remains modern poetry and it was that little poem Inversnaid opened that door for me. To this day, I sometimes recite it out loud when I'm by myself, I just really like the way it sounds.

Lol, my husband is a practical guy, former Navy pilot. He does not "get" poetry. Every now & then I'll start talking about it, trying to explain why some poem is really really good. His typical response is, "Wow, you got a lot out of that". Fortunately for me, he gets cycling. So I have no complaints.

Mine was taken from the first Star Trek movie. The Earthlings were referred to as Carbon Units. I am not a Trekkie but I do ride a carbon bike.

Now, I would like to change my name and have a few in mind. Is it possible to have a name change?

Mine's a derivation of The Mad Hatter and an inverted application of the nickname Bluey. At the time I had a blue cap that I more or less lived in.

Ohh, and having re-read that Mad Hatter article on Wikipedia, I confess I do drink lots of cups of tea each day. I don't consider myself a particularly great singer, probably bad enough for someone to want me executed.

self-explanatory. My dad was in the Army, stationed in Fort Sill, OK. He said everyone there was a fan of Oklahoma football and since there wasn't a pro team...adopted the Dallas Cowboys. From the time I was old enough to watch television...I've been a Cowboy fan.

Mine like my avatar is symbolic of a old TV show. It was not politically correct, but I found it, and most of what was on the man show very funny. The the girls jumping on a trapoline at the opening, and the female mascots called juggies.

Butch + Ammon = ButchA

"Butch" came from my oldest sister (10 yrs older than me), who back in 1961 at age 10, saw me for the first time cradled in my moms arms in the hospital, and said these famous words, "Oh, isn't he cute? Let's call him 'Butch' " - - and the rest is history!

I absolutely REFUSE to divulge my real, legal, first name... Ick... I've hated that name for 54 years. I don't care that I'm a "Jr." named after my dad, I can't stand the name!

Boston…Jim from Boston. D’uh.

Actually, besides the simplicity and utility of that screen name, it has a deeper meaning. I’m an avid radio talk show fan, and when I (rarely) call in, I’m introduced as Jim from Boston (…”and now here’s Jim from Boston. What’s up Jim"?).

My nickname on the thread"Metro Boston: Good ride today?" is JfB and a sophisticated BF subscriber on that thread once addressed me as ”James de Boston”; wished I had thought of that.

Mine comes from when I first signed on the internet in the 90's with AOL. Asked me to come up with a username. I put in every variation of my real name I could think of and they all were taken. I then started putting in other stuff - again it was all taken. So put in the name of my favorite poem The Raven - even that was taken. Plugged in the amalgamation of 'Quoth the Raven 'Nevermore' as Ravenmore. That worked.
