Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

"I can truly turn any conversation on BF into a Pissing Contest. It's a Gift. "
It must be something - a gift, a disease, a slowly accumulating fungus...something. your post did make me do the old LOL thought and that's worth something.
Tell the truth I haven't lift skiied in about 5 years. The tele was getting hard on my knees. Its also getting prohibitively expensive. Even a day ticket to Eldora runs over 40 simoleons now. and thats a lot of simoleons. I'd rather back country or skate.
Did I actually diss the mustache? I think not. I only remarked upon its resemblance to certain hirsute accoutrements favored by the "wet and wild" crowd from the early 80's. In that sense you could say the mustache was/is "remarkable."
Hopefully I am out in upstate in a couple of summers with the Parlee pounding around the roadsa near Watertown. My brother-in-law slays all comers on the bicycle.

Cycling is one of my favorite things to do so I really hate missing rides. One of my offices (where I go 3 times/week) is 22 miles from home. I've never taken any type of transport other than bicycle and it hate getting sent out of town on business because I lose my commute. I was on a brutal climbing ride last weekend that I imagine left a lot of people wanting a break, but I've been riding this week and will definitely go out for a century this weekend.

However, I don't have a riding routine so it's harder for me to technically wuss out. I commute (which is obligatory to keep my job), do recreational rides (which I look forward to), and sometimes put in trainer time (which is gravy -- I don't plan this in advance).

Cycling should be fun. If you need a break, you should take it easy for a bit, get your motivation back, and then hop back on. It's too hard to stay out there year after year if it's torture.

Over the past few years I've gotten worked up and pissed off at myself for wussying out from time to time, but this year I decided to change my perspective completely. Now I ride when I want to ride, and really could give a crap if I decide not to go out for whatever reason. There's many days that I plan to ride, wake up, and just say 'ah, the hell with it', and do something else instead. It's enlightening . I'm still riding 3-5x a week, and have started weight training again (you skinny f'ers need to get over the whole upper body muscle **** - it's not what's inhibiting you from going pro ). I feel better out on the bike too... less stressing over it maybe? I've taken a week off here and there and gotten plenty of recovery which I think adds to it.

I prefer the bad weather though. A beautiful day with sunshine and I'm miserable. Give me a rainy, windy day, and I excel. That being said, this weekend is our local MS150 City to Shore death march... which means 175 miles of 60 degree rainy weather, and I'm going to love every minute of it

It took me years of racing GS to get over that. Good thing too, that feet glued together crap can kill you, particularly at high speed. I like to ski fast. Very, very fast. Ask my ski pals.

The few times I've not ridden in the winter I regret it once the weather warms up and I want to be in reasonable shape come spring. I don't like the idea of trainers either so I just hit the road, though the motivation sometimes takes some doing so hopefully it will be a mild winter.

I guess getting wet is no biggie when you are riding in a bath tub. Does yours have a soap dish?

When riding in showers, cyclists prefer gels to soaps...

I still can't get over the idea that Pcad thinks that porn star 'stache actually got him laid.

When I was that age there was no video. The only people with movies of their little kids were rich and used 16mm cameras.

He has mentioned pcadette, so we know he's gotten laid once. If he didn't notice Mrs. Pcad's inebriation, he could have associated the event with the 'stache...

It was just a bad Larry Craig joke. I ski fatties too. I didn't learn to ski until the 80's, being in FL before that, but they were still those long straight skis.

I still have a pair. My wife put them on CL and a guy showed up to pick them up. He had just moved to CO from TN and had never skied before. He thought he was going to learn on my 205 cm slalom skis!

I couldn't have lived with myself if I let him take them. Certain death.

Now be nice...you know darn well that BJ can't grow a beard, so he had to shave his head and create a glue-on beard for when he naps, I mean rides that hammock of his.
