Biking Shorts....Please help!!
I just recently bought a fitness, recreational bike, and am looking to buy some padded, comfortable compression bike shorts.
I am a beginner so I would think I would need a pretty decent padded short, correct?
Does anyone have any suggestions? Brands? Model? I am a male by the way.

You may need to experiment. I certainly did.
I suggest you start with the lower end products from name brand companies.
Examples would be ; Canari, Cannondale, Pearl Izumi, Louis Garneu.
They all have a slightly different feel and fit.
when you find a good, comfortable short you can then move up the quality ladder within that companies product line, pretty secure in the knowledge that they will fit

I would say it depends on how much riding you plan to do and distances you plan to ride. With shorts I've found you typically get what you pay for. There are so many different brands out there. If you can go to a local bike shop, ask them what they have and try some on. I've had luck with Performance's house brand, Pearl Izumi, and Bontrager.

What kind of seat does your bike have? It is a typical lightly padded seat vs a comfort seat, right? If so, look at pearl izumi, performance etc. Also consider bibs. My first purchase was bike shorts, the next 6 purchases were bibs.

Good brand names dropped so far. Trial and error as they say with different strokes for different folks as far as pad thickness and the bib/short choice.
My #1 choice is Sugoi with their RC Pro Chamois, not cheap but one and done. They got me through the 112 miles without a dismount and no discomfort in my Ironman Florida last year. I prefer shorts to bibs for ease of on/off and besides I don't need the straps for keeping them in place.

I love my Specialized shorts they have a large comfy pad and can't be beat for $50.00

I have several different brands...For shorter rides of 2 hours or less the nashbar house brand work well for me, but after 2 hours they do not keep me comfortable.
I have both Bontrager and specialized shorts that are comfortable all day...
it is pretty much a personal preference thing, what is comfortable to you.
The only brand I have tried on that I did not like at all was, I think it is castelli....I wear a medium in all the other brands, but had to go to a large with them and they were not comfortable.

to me with bike shorts, quality and comfort goes hand in hand with price.
For me, De Marchi has been great. I also prefer bibs to shorts since they do not roll over at the waist.
Each person's sit bones do vary and what fits one well may not fit you. Also your overall fitness is important since some fit tighter and are meant for narrower frames/builds than others.
Some also position the chamois pad more forward than others. This might be because they are aiming for a more racing bike fit than a recreational/upright bike posture.

I really like the baggy style shorts with the built-in, padded liner. I was recently able to pick up a couple of pairs of Canari padded cycling shorts for less than half price, (about $25, if I recall correctly), at Sierra Trading Post.

i agree for cheap shorts sugoi is the best i have found. rei or sierra trading post for ultra low pricing.
