Olmo bike

I'm eyeing this Olmo. I not to familiar with Olmo's but have always wanted one. So, I figure this would be a good bike and get it back on the road. I prefer the professional I think that was the higher end bike.

Seller asking 180.00. Can anyone identify model and year. It seems to have the chrome lugs and may have been black.

The professional I recall also has a chrome rear triangle and this one does not. So, I can't make out this model.

Looks to be in the late 1950's to early 1960's time from what can be seen in the images.

There should be a serial number on the seat lug which will afford opportunity to narrow date.

Serial format at this era was letter/number/number/number (LNNN) as in D827.

Excellent information here -

Olmo, Peter Brueggeman

I agree, probably 50's or 60's model. It may well have been at least partly repainted at some point, which could account for chrome distribution.

That is probably a steel Campagnolo Record rear derailleur (or Gran Sport), both have moderate demand, and are less common today than the Nuovo Record.

The rear freewheel is likely much larger than original, and it appears is if the derailleur is struggling to wrap that much chain. I'd probably go with a little bit smaller freewheel and chop off a few chain links.

Your cable housing looks old and may not have been updated for quite some time (which is also an indication that the bike hasn't seen heavy use for quite some time).

I'd say the bike is worth more than the $180 asking price in large part due to its age, as well as a number of quality components (for the era).

I think as well as being an Olmo, the age makes it desireable. 70s, 80s bikes are easy to find, but heading in to the 60s and even 50 they're much less common, around here at least. I'd say go for it if it's within your means. I like it.

If @Cycologist chooses not to purchase the bike, it would be kind to post the contact information here.

There may be several people interested.
