Wow, that was easy!
My new Schwalbe Marathon Supreme 700x40 tires were delivered yesterday evening. Today I headed out to the garage intending to mount the tires and prepared for a battle. Turns out, I was able to mount the tires without the use of any tools, just fingers and thumbs. I’m relieved that the job went so well after reading about what some folks went through fitting new folding tires. 😋

you didn't even use tire levers? Having a set of those would be handy i'd imagine, especially since they're dirt cheap.

I wanted to avoid using tools if at all possible to not pinch my tubes. I have tire levers, just didn’t need them.

Cool. I just got schwalbe marathons myself, after getting flats all the time. Good experience so far, though I had them installed at my local bike shop, because convenience, and I'm lazy...
Do you have a bike work stand or something to elevate your bike while you're working on it? I have a bike rack on my car, but otherwise would be a pain to take wheels off and on.

I used my calipers and tires measure very close to 40mm. Tires are on my cheapy Specialized Alibi Sport (which I love)!
oh, I did have a home made maintenance stand so removing and replacing wheels is easy.

Poor bike probably has the heevie-jeevies every time you come at it with the car, JK!
congrats on the easy shod work. Sometimes you get lucky.

I think the folding versions of the Marathon range are quite easy to install onto a rim(my Marathon Mondials were), I believe it is the wired versions that are much more difficult to mount.

In my (admittedly limited) experience the wider the tires are, the easier they are to install, generally (obviously depends on the specific model). All of the 26x2's (wired) I had on my old mountain bikes were easily installed/removed without the use of any tools. Schwalbe CX Comp 700x38 on my current ride can be removed without tools, but levers are needed to install them - but it still goes quite easy.

Had to swap out the front inner tube. Man what a PITA. have schwalbe marathons, but they're wire bead. Was able to get the tire off, but putting it back on was impossible, especially the last bit of tire sticking out. My tire levers did me no good. Not sure if it was lack of experience, or lack of elbow grease, or both. Ended up taking it to my LBS, the owner just put the rest in with his tire level and pumped it up for no charge. Was nice enough for him, but man did I feel defeated.

I can imagine, maybe you should get youself a Tire Beed Jack. Very inexpensive and used to get that last few inches of tire over the rim. I had no experience with a folding tire so I expected a real fight like with your wire beed Marathons. Lucky me.

We have been touring bon these tires for 5 years. Across the US, Canada and Europe. Just returned about 3 weeks ago from a 2 month tour in Europe. About 2500 miles and they still look brand new!
