Walmart Thruster fixie bike? modification?
Thinking about buying one of these Walmart bikes, removing the wheels, handlbar, and cranks with some brand name parts i find off of craigslist locally.
does that sound like a good idea?
im thinking the frame won't be too bad with velocity deep v's, profile h20 track drops and a new crank/gear and a better chain.
good idea or no?
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Thruster-7...-Bike/17206771
keep in mind the color scheme won't be there because ONLY THE FRAME WILL BE USED FOR A PROJECT, EVERYTHING ELSE WILL BE REPLACED AND SOLD

No. If you're trying to change every part on this bike, just start with a different, higher quality bike to begin with.

No. You can get a better bike for less off the internet or used than those upgrades will cost you.
Converting a Thruster is worse than converting a road bike. Just say no.
Terrible, terrible idea.

Doesn't sound like a good idea to me, neither. The idea of the Moto Track from BD sounds much better. Even the SST Steel from BD is a better choice and cost less than the Moto.

Bad idea. Never buy a bike to upgrade everything. That's a way to make a cheap bike way expensive. Just buy the Walmart bike and ride it. Nothing wrong with that.

It actually weights around 30-32lb range.
Or you could see it as this, which one would survive better jumping the bike off a curb, this Thruster? Or your personal bike? I have my money on the Thruster.

I take my bike of curbs daily, and steps.
and no I would never pick a thruster over my bike.

We gotta sticky or create a thread specifically about this bike. Maybe we can create a collaborative essay on why not to get the bike, and suggestions as to what to get instead. It's getting crazy now.

Drunk beater or polo bike are the only worthwhile applications I can think of for one.

The Mongoose Sinsure would be a much better alternative to a Thruster. It's only about fifty bucks more...

Also, the Thruster has more plastic containing components than the Sinsure does, as well.

When I take my road bike off of sweet jumps I worry about snapping a chainstay more that I think about the fork or the wheels.
If you are going to get a bunch of used parts for a bike, go ahead and get a used frame also.
