No rear brake cable guide

I want to put V-brakes on a mid-90's bike that was designed for traditional cantilevers. The top-tube has the front brake cable guide but the rear brake cable guide is one of those that is about 1.5" long and curves around the seatpost. All bikes I've seen with V-brakes have a cable stop 2-3" in front of the seat tube to allow the cable to arch up and over to the brake calipers.

How have people gotten around this lack of a rear cable guide? Would something as simple as a zip-tie work? Are there bolt-on cable guides?

You could go with full length casing and zip ties. You could get a clamp on (Back Stop is one name) casing stop (if the rear section of the TT is round) and place it a few inches in front of the ST. Andy.

They make cable stops for canti's that hang off the space for the seat post collar. Might work. Surly makes one.

I ran the cable through the curved guide and used the end of the guide as a stop, running housing with ferules at both ends to the brake. I used a plastic liner in the guide to reduce friction. It's a kludge, not an example of my best work, but it works fine and it has been that way for years.

If its a housing stop that is close to the seat post , use that , the one infront is for the rest of the cable .

or ,yes just run housing from the brake lever to the V brake. zip tie it on ..

Full length casing never occurred to me. I think I'll go that route.

Thanks!

I recently ran into that same problem on bike I was putting together. Using one of these worked perfect:

I had the same issue when I switched a bike from canti's to v brake. I ran full length housing and just ignored alll the other stuff. When I painted the frame, I cut, filed the stuff I wasn't using off. Works fine.
