Shoe lace Alternative

On my commuter/Mtb, I use strapless toe clips. So my normal foot wear was running shoes. One day on the way home from work, my shoelace untied and wrapped around my pedal. It happened at the worst stretch of my commute. With all the traffic and no wear to go, it was kind of frighting. After that I started wearing slip on(s) but I didn’t like them. Then I searched the internet and found these.
HICKIES - No Tie Elastic Shoelaces
They have me back in the shoes i like with no worries of that ever happening again. Hope this might help someone else.

I ride fixed gear often and getting a shoelace caught in the chain is a big deal because you can't coast or stop pedaling.

I always use a double knot and then tuck the free loops under the laces. Works well for me.

I don't cycle-commute anymore so I don't have to do this, but...
1. Take the loop and tag end toward the bike, and pull them to the outside.
2. Gather them up along with the outside loop.
3. Take the outside tag end and loop it around the bundle and tuck it under itself, making a half-hitch.
4. All the laces will be to the outside of your foot and can't get caught in anything.

Never thought about tangled shoelaces... I'll add that to my list of reasons I don't do shoes

I also ride fixed and tuck the laces into the shoes once they are tied. All it takes is one time for the lace to get tangled up in the chain on a fixed gear and you will make sure it never happens again.

Yep. I tour. Breaking a shoelace in the middle of nowhere is not a good thing.

My latest Giro shoes have an elastic lace holder near the middle of the tongue to tuck the laces into.
You might be able to get a shoe maker to add something like that for a few dollars.

I have a pair of Lake touring shoes that have the same sort of holder. I had never seen one before, however it is a really useful addition.

I had this problem too, I don't use SPD pedals (yet) so I used regular running shoes for cycling (commuting included). I looked for a while and outdoor shoes tend to have elastic closures with a lock to adjust fit. I got a model very much like this one and no more tangled shoelaces:

You can also get silicone shoelaces from AliExpress to replace the ones you have if you want to keep using the same shoes (haven't used those myself, just quickly checked)

I had my shoe lace wrap itself around the pedal spindle (IIRC, it was the right/drive side) on a commute home once. I use platforms and discovered it when I went to put my foot down on the curb at a stop sign... yeah, started tucking my laces after that.

This. Learned this years ago when I started running. The habit carried over for biking as well.

EDIT: A double knot isn't necessary if you tie a proper square knot, not a granny knot. (Left over right, right over left, not left over right, left over right. Your laces should be perpendicular to the axis of your foot when you're done, not skewed.)

I'd imagine this would get messy (and wear unnecessarily on the shoe) after hundreds of applications and subsequent removals. Not to mention sweaty feet...

NFL teams occasionally tapes Players shoes to their feet so they dont come off during the Game.

1989, I got a pair of shoes made with a Lace cover as part of the design. , but they are not made any More.

you May be able to Pay a shoe shop to retrofit something like that .. using velcro

Huh....had a shoe lace come untied while cycling for the first time ever today. Once I got it unwrapped from around my neck all was good, but methinks I'm gonna start tucking my laces.
