Filet brazing uses brass filler and a low temperature torch burning acetylene.

TIG stands for tungsten inert gas. Tungsten is the filler, and the welder is electrical and creates a high temperature. Because of the high temperature, one must spend a short amount of time at each point to avoid overheating. As such, it requires more skill.

After filet brazing, you can file away the brass filler which is why the joints are so smooth.

Here is a more extensive explanation with pictures.

Congratulations on finding your new friend.
I am new to the forum and I don’t know if it is proper to ask if the Brooks Saddle that came with the Bike is available.
My 1968 Brooks is in need of replacement.

I would be VERY surprised to find Tange Champion #5 plain gauge in this level and quality of frame, especially since the builders say they were using " ...a lot of Columbus during that time frame", I think it may be as the Owner guesses (SL) and if the ODs do not support a metric SL set, then maybe they DID use a double-butted tube for the seat tube...strange practice but plausible, and better than they installed a single butted SL tube upside-down!

Been a couple of weeks. The bike has cleaned up well. I slapped on some cheap Performance Forte Strada 700X25 tires but will eventually go to tubulars with Continental Sprinter Gatorskins. Swapped in a Suntour Superbe seatpost thanks to a trade and just need to put on a new chain and possibly freewheel to solve the skipping issue. Can't wait to take it out for the first time.

I was able to locate some Bike Ribbon Professional bar tape which is my favorite and the white hoods cleaned up pretty easily with soap and water. Looking at this I guess I need to fix that crooked hood too.

What's the OD on the headtube? Looks like it might be 33mm, possibly with internal reinforcements. That's another lugless trick--use an OS headtube with pieces of a regular headtube inside to support the head races.

What are the ones you have?

Hey there, scozim I finally located the Falcon hubcaps as I was searching for something else, and thanks to curbtender for redirecting me back to this thread. Here is a pic of the 4 caps, there is one in the lower RH which in which the black paint is more chipped/scraped than the other 3, but chrome is pretty good in all, I did nothing by way of polishing or touch-up on these. As said I have no Falcon so would part with them for cost of shipping plus maybe a buck or 2 for my time to pack up and visit the Post Office LMK if you (or another Falconer) want these, just PM me. (and again my apologies for the thread hi-jack but y'know we have additional hobbies, some of us)
