I can't say I hate it, but I would prefer if winter was a bit shorter/milder than it is here in Chicagoland.
Having said that, there are still plenty of acceptable riding days every month of the year... even if one wants to avoid riding in snow, ice, or the extreme coldest of days. Snow removal is quick and efficient around here. It's rare that I miss an entire week. Hanging up the bike for 4 or 5 months or riding indoors just isn't an appealing option for me.
Plus, shoveling snow is a great full body workout!

Ambivalent.
Pros: - Less people on the paths
- Cyclings makes me avoid public tranportation and thus a lot of the winter illness bugs

- Spike tires convert some of my energy into noise instead of propulsion

Winter is nice. I genuinely missed it during the three years I lived in places without any real winter (one year in southern California, followed by two on the Alabama Gulf Coast.)
I still ride outside, just with different clothing and equipment. I like to think that it puts the H in HTFU.

My ideal year would be summer for 11 months, and then 1 month of proper winter where I could cross-country ski, snowshoe, etc.

What's all this talk of winter? There are still two months of fall!
But winter is great. It kills the bugs and weeds. There is nothing like a good freeze to reset nature.
I do wish it snowed more and stayed reliably cold for longer where I live. That's one thing I loved about the Twin Cities (once I figured out how to dress). Winter can suck at times if it's a lot of cold/wet, but cold/frozen is so much easier to deal with.

Iowa used to be good for XC sking but the last few years have seen extended dry riding seasons and little snow.
Tired of that I'm going to Montana for ski season this year and leaving the bike home.

You know how you can tell "winter is coming" in SoCal? I ride onto the north end of the SART, and every cyclist I pass is in full-tactical configuration-- arm warmers, gilets (or full-on windbreakers,) leg warmers or tights, full-fingered gloves, maybe even a balaclava or two. Then I look down at the thermometer and it's 62º. How do these people live? First drop of rain hits the ground, forget it. I've done 50 miles on a Saturday morning in sporadic drizzle, and had zero FlyBys on Strava. Not only did I not see anyone, there literally wasn't anyone out there to see. It's a fairly soft crowd out here.

Love it!
Gotta get outside in the Winter to avoid cabin fever. XC and downhill skiing are fun, but fat biking in the snow is even better. Groomed single track is a blast to ride, way more fun than I ever expected. It's never too cold to ride, you just need the appropriate attire!

Just another season. I find it more tolerable if I get out in it more.. such as cycling, kayaking, hiking etc. Just like the days growing up on the farm.

Yeah, we do that in the summer in my town. On real snow. Then go for a beer in the hot sun. We have things how we want them. Winter is just rude.

I'd prefer Canadian-level cold.
And for me, 2 months would be too long. After 40+ years of 6-8 month Canadian winters each year, I'm over them.

The things I like about long, cold winters:
1 - It's worth spending the money on good winter gear, instead of just hiding indoors until it passes
2 - Deep cold is more tolerable than wet cold. I mean, I'm happier in 20F and snow than 35F and rain. We get that wet cold in autumn and spring, but in between we have some nice long streaks of cold
3 - With a long winter, that first sunny and 60F day feels like heaven!
4 - Ego-boosting braggin' rights with everybody, except those Arrowhead 135 riders ... they are far more bad@$$!
