Had a great ride going on this day and it rained just up the road from me and had stopped by the time I got there. It was like peanut butter.

Some impressive grunge so far. Found from my commuting days. I cleaned it up off and on. Weekly for a while, but didn't make much difference given our wet Winters. Don

I'll start with my Moser. This is my salty road and rain bike. She won't get a cleaning until spring thaw. That's when I can put my garden hose out.
The long shot makes her look ok. But the close-ups...
Dirt, grime and grease won't hurt a steel frame if they aren't cleaned off right away. Corrosive salts are another story entirely. That's too ice a bike to get eaten slowly by road salt.

After a 30 mi muddy gravel ride on Sunday... The bike is in the basement while I wait for another above-freezing day to wash it.

That was when we lived in Olympia, WA. Those 2 on the bar are Vista Light Halogens, a 10 Watt + a 15 Watt. At 1st, I had only the 10W, powered by a used, re-chargeable "Lite Stick" battery I got from Bill Stevenson. Lite Stick hung under the TT. When that died, I added the 15W and ran both off it's 6 volt SLA hung in a cloth pouch at the TT/ST junction. The 6 volt SLA would only last for 1 rainy season. Each Fall I replaced it.

Lower light is a LumoTec Halogen powered by a swap meet, Sturmey Archer DynoHub. Corey Thompson built it into a Torelli Master rim for me. I ran the LumoTec only on country roads, turned on 1 or both the Vista Lights as needed along my commute. Still have all 3 lights, but only using the Lumotec on my Torelli at present. The final system worked quite well, and wasn't too expensive. Don

edit: found a pic of the Lite Stick but the 10 W light is hidden behind the old SA light I ran when 1st added the DynoHub. That old school SA headlight was pretty dim. Lumotec was a big improvement.

I am enjoying these pictures MUCH more than I would expect. @xetaprime, best laugh of the day.

Put about 2000 km on the Bianchi, this year, and this thread made me realize that the bike could use a bit or tidying up. So, soap and water, a bit of WD40, a fine brass wire brush and a rag, cleaned off most of the mess...

But the salt air means rust and the rust s very aggressive(lots of rust snakes are easier to see once I cleaned the bike off). The bike will be disassembled, before I head home in April. I will slap a coat of paint on it, after de-rusting what I can....

Though I do prefer ProLink for my chain, that lube does little to prevent rapid rusting or the chain. With that in mind, I give it a blast of WD40 at frequent intervals, and the ProLink only now and again...

@NYMXer and I took a 25-mile ride yesterday (Sunday), after I assured him that the roads in my area were clear and dry. Well, I was wrong. We hit a dirt road that wasn't plowed, and it had six inches of snow and ice. It was on a steep hill, and we had no traction, so we pushed our bikes for a half mile.

It went from the negative teens to the mid forties in Chi-town, had a group ride last night then today's commute...

I heart fenders.
