TRP HY/RD brakes
Can TRP HY/RD brakes be used on a year old Comotion Carrera in the rear. I would like a little more stopping power.

That should be fine, however, before you spend money, this topic has been discussed many times. The challenge with rear cable disc brakes is the cable slack weight which robs you of a large portion of your brake lever travel limiting braking force. I significantly improved our rear braking on our '14 Carrera by adding a return spring. Take a look at this thread (if you haven't already) https://www.bikeforums.net/tandem-cy...rformance.html

Although it might have been beat to death. I'll add that we used compressionless housing on our brakes on our mountain tandem. It is housed from brake handle to the caliper though and likely doesn't make a lot difference for exposed routing.

Have had good experience with TRP Hy/Rd on my winter half bike. As has been said, truly compressionless housing is very beneficial.
Also, it is worth noting that the Hy/Rd are designed for the lever/cable pull from current Shimano 11 speed STI levers. If you are using something else (I am using 10 Speed 105) then adjusting the cable pull at the caliper may be worthwhile. There are a number of ways to do this (try YouTube), but from my experience the best option is to install JoeJack (joejack951) replacement levers on the calliper. JoeJack is on this and the Weight Weenies forum. Replacement only takes a few minutes.
I am seriously considering Hr/Rd for our tandem.

The Hy/Rd’s were recommended by friends with a tandem and by Rick at the House of Tandem’s. We used this as an excuse to replace the OEM Cannondale fork, wheelset and the brakes. The Hy/Rds were a great improvement. Of course, we were coming from a worn out XTR V-brake on the front and an equally worn out Avid BB-7.
This is our first bike with disks at both ends. So far so great.
