Freehub Replacement Info Needed
Sold a Burley Samba tandem 3 months ago. Yesterday the new owners, my sister & b-i-l rode by and asked if I knew what the grinding sound was when they were coasting. I told them no coasting but they weren't having that answer.
Shimano tandem hub FH-HF05. Was 7 speed, I changed the freehub to 8 speed about a year ago using one I picked up from my LBS. The freehub had failed so I replaced it with a new one I had on hand. FH-1056, new bearings, grease and back on the road.
Is there a better/stronger freehub I should use?
Is there a "correct" freehub?
I would like to find a reliable replacement since the bike seems to have a lifetime warranty.
Thanks

So did you replace the whole wheel with one using an FH-1056 hub, or did you just swap the freehub body with one from an FH-1056? Shimano hubs for "singles" are pretty strong, so I'm tempted to think it would do the job unless someone has a correction to that.
Having trouble finding info for the FH-HF05 specifically. Pictures would help if you have them.

Did you hear the noise? When a freehub coasts, it will always make a rapid whirring noise as you know. Perhaps your sister and b-i-l heard that, and not anything that indicates damage.

I tried hard to find a diagram for the FH-HF05, did find one for FH-HF08. https://www.sjscycles.com/Drawings/Sh...8_Tech_Doc.pdf

Here is what I removed. Right hand dust cap separated from the body?
