My vintage mountain bike is not nearly as swanky as the Merz.

Here is my 84 Mt Fuji. I just finished overhauling it recently. New tires and a nicer ARX rear derailleur are in its future.

Thank you Sir! A Merz is a Merz so...

It is one of around 10 according to Jim plus 5 or so prototypes when he got to Specialized.

I had never seen one in person or for sale until this.

The Fuji is no slouch, and its in much better shape. They have been doing it right for a very long time and much better than most of their countrymen early on. Always been a fan. And they were destined to build MTB's, Mt. Fuji, genius.

My rain bike is a modern Fuji that is rock solid and I have a 2009 Roubaix Pro that was a midrange weighing in at 19.6 lb stock with carbon fork front and rear that fly's even with me on it.

1991 Haro Extreme Comp

I’ve never in all of my 66+ years owned a mountain bike. But a couple of weeks ago some friends were discussing some local areas that they swear are beautiful but really require a mountain bike to get there. So I visited my friend Bill the Bike Flipper with a vintage Trek or Specialized in mind. He knows I like “unusual”, so he pulled this neon wonder from his van. It was love at first sight. One of the thumb shifters was broken but everything else looked straight and in OK shape, so it came home with me. Here it is after cleanup and the addition of Rene Herse Rat Trap Pass shoes for city riding (plus the usual replacement cabling, hub service, etc.). One of the hardest things was getting the original handlebar grips off and back on in one piece. Definitely a change from my usual randonneuse build! But fun

Thanks

@Honusms, air hose with rubber tipped blow gun and a few drops of glass cleaner applied carefully works fabulous.

Very nice, very cool.

This is the only mountain bike I've ever owned, and don't really know much about it. It's an 89 I believe, Nishiki Colorado Cunningham Design.

Very nice, very cool.
After brute force did not budge them, a 16g needle and 10cc isopropyl alcohol injected underneath the grip on either end combine with twisting did the job quite well. And a generous application of the same made installation a breeze. Same technique as for stubborn brake hoods.

My Mali from cca 1990-91. Originally came with an 550 LX grouppo. It has seen better days, but it's pristine mechanically. Fast, agile, has very good handling and the shifting is ridiculously good.

@Honusms Love the Tange Switchblade fork. Very cool design and sought after. The Shimano U brake (Deore XT?) is very cool too.

i had put up a bad picture of my stump jumper before, but i think i must have deleted the post. i'm at a loss as to what to do with this thing. it's a rad bike and all, but i don't really have the space for it. i could use some of the components on my univega build, but i'd kinda hate to part it out.

24/26 1984 cannondale.

Picked this up the other day. I hear it's one of the first aluminum Mt.bikes.
It is a lot of fun to ride!

20" model This guy matches best from cataloge at vinragecannondale.com. BB on the bottom bracket SN puts it in1984, only this and the ST models in the catalog this year.

Bullhorn bars and suntour thumbies sealed the deal

Finished building a '95 Kona Kula today (is that vintage?). Mix of old and new - feels great so far; can't wait to hit the trails.

My Gary Fisher 1st generation 1993 Hoo Koo e Koo that has been sitting under a tarp behind my garage for the past 15 years or so. It's waiting to be restored. I have all the original parts somewhere in my garage.

I put a suspension stem on the bike. They actually made aftermarket suspension forks but I couldn't find one that was affordable back then and went with the stem.

Just picked up a 1993 (est) Specialized Rock Hopper Comp, Deore LX components. It was missing a drive side crank bolt (had one in the parts bin) and the trigger shifters will need a flush and lube as only about 3 gears work in back.

Hi ryansu,

I see your Specialized Rockhopper Comp and I raise you a 1992 Specialized Rockhopper Comp in the same color scheme!! This is my brother's bike that I tuned up for him. He found it at a yard sale. It came with the RockShox forks, newer Continental X King tires, and bike computer. We re-greased everything, added new cables, grips, tire tube, and saddle. She's a beauty! My brother says this one's a keeper.

Mixed terrain 4 day tour on the '86 High Sierra. The Panaracer Swift Ripp Johnson tires were slight overkill on the paved parts but perfect for the rocky, muddy ATV trails and double track we hit. The Deerhead drivetrain was flawless and the Suntour roller cams were rock solid.

Had this out today:

I definitely should start riding this more. It may get a different saddle and fenders. We'll see.
