Solida Crankset Fasteners
Hi,
I have removed the crankset from my vintage Peugeot and cannot separate the two rings. The front has an Allen key, but the rear turns with it. I do not have a flat head to fit the back side (pictured).
Does anyone know of a way to remove these?

...there's a special tool for that. ....they're cheap. Looks rusted so you also need penetrating oil.

I had the same issue today trying to change big rings on a Sugino AT crank set. I knew about the tool, but just never got around to buying one. I've always been able to fake it with a big flat screw driver. These were really stuck, even after a penetrating oil soak. Tonight something slipped and the crank took a big chunk of skin off my thumb joint. I got cleaned up, stopped the bleeding, and went back to the crank and there was a big wad of skin stuck on it. Tomorrow I'm buying the $4 tool. Some of us are slow learners.

The chainring bolt tool helps but still slips easily depending on the bolt. Was never a good design.
I like the modern chainring bolts that take an Allen on both sides.

I took a knockout from a metal electric panel and ground it down a bit to fit the slot. It works for me. Before that I used a penny.
