4th of July Ride !
Dusted off the old girl for a 24 mile ride before heading out to my daughters for a cookout with the grand buddies. The legs are starting to feel better and better as the heat has been rising as we've had some 90's and humid days.

Did my 6.4 mi. TT (250 ft elevation) at a PB of 18.4 mph. Just turned 72 and encouraged to be getting faster with age.

Got in a short 19 mile ride before the heat picked up and my wife got up for the day. Still very humid and buggy (included around 6 miles of gravel roads through a state forest). Nice rice but glad I got it done early! Weekend in Connecticut is looking great so far ... heat wave breaking and less humid!

I didn't ride on the 4th, but thanks to your video I feel as if I did ride, except much faster than my average speed.

Rode 110 miles, fast in the AM, slow in the PM as the thermometer climbed. Ended up with 3 water bottles on by the end.

I got 25 miles in a favorite location. Then an easy 4 mile hike for solitude before driving back for afternoon festivities and evening explosions.

34 miles 4,500' over the mountain to watch the tug of war.
Two tiny towns on either side of small bay contest across the channel. I think teams of 30 on each side, women, then men.
On the way back a ~4 mile 1,500' climb makes a good time trial & FTP test.
Showed a slight improvement over previous time even though I wasn't going all out.
Good as I thought FTP might have gone down.

Got up early and rode GMR to the shack for 2500 ft of up in 9 miles. (19 total)
Passed a few hundred on the way up when I was headed down I've never seen that many cyclists in one place other than an organized event of some sort.
Next year I'll clear the schedule so I'll have time to go all the way to Baldy Village and the Lodge.
The word is now out about the gate being closed on the 4th.

Sounds fun, I did a nice ride a few weeks back starting in Canterbury and through a few Eastern CT towns and Pachaug State Forest. My July 4th ride was in Chester ... this weekend I've got a loop in NW CT, SW Mass and the East side of NY.

That's right. We've got some great riding around here. Lots of 3,4,5 hour rides with one or two mandatory stops.

I went to one of Mom's friends to watch some horses, and a BBQ.
It happened to be on the opposite side of one of the local hills... so up over the top.
Then back over the top on the way back. I decided to drop down a steeper section of the hill.

Then got stuck behind a slow car.
So, I decided to climb back up the hill to the top of the steep section and back down. Unfortunately on the way down, I broke a rear spoke pushing at 45 MPH descent. Fortunately I decided to throw a couple of spares back in my pack just that morning (had taken them out when I wasn't riding the bike). Replaced the spoke, trued the wheel.
Top speed of 54 MPH on the descent.
Back up another hill on the way home. And, bam, another broken spoke on a 42 MPH descent. Another spoke, and road truing the wheel, and headed off. This time a little more carefully as I wasn't sure I would be able to replace a third.
Stopped by the local co-op bike valet for fireworks, and was told to head to the other location. So, a couple more miles on the bike path. Parked bikes, watched fireworks, then back home.
70 miles total for the day, 5000 feet climbing.

Went 15 miles early in the morning and pushed myself a bit since I’m out of shape. I was able to ride 70+ miles the week of the 4th, which is a higher number than normal.
