Has to be a rarity to be a 'chosen one' to experience a bike part that was unwantedly messed with...

Went out for a still early, yet not front lawn misted with the dew bike ride. Upon stopping for a restroom break near the end using the bike railing to secure the bike, walking back from the RR, I noticed my brake lever equally positioned to the other one. I purposely adjusted my levers to my comfort & that resulted in one brake lever being slightly off to the other one. Looked at the allen head bolt, sure enough, there was witness markings from a tool being used. I always apply a light coat of paint to the heads of select hardware just out of pure preference.

Has anyone ever had something similar happen to them?

No one I know would have been in the particular area, especially with tools as such. Area is a known nice community & well protected.

Troul, this is a strange thing to have happened. Are you sure there's no other explanation outside of the supernatural? For instance, is it possible that a friend of yours happened across your bike and "helped" you?

I have seen things like quick releases that are odd when doing Bike Valet, and wonder if it is good to just orient them properly, or ignore them.

I have to think the changes you noted at a restroom break were from bumping the bike, although, someone might have shifted them slightly with brute force. I doubt a tool was used.

I have my left hood rotated slightly inward to accommodate my bad shoulder.

"Hey man, you know your hoods are crooked?" is common. But no one has every tried to fix it.

I have been tempted to adjust people's seat height.

Or shift them into an easier gear and they grind at 50 rpm.

Not by ME, of course! My u-lock is otherwise engaged at the moment. But I'd probably let you know that your impromptu repair had ought to be discussed with me, the owner, first!

The only unsolicited adjustments I'd make would be if a friend was going too fast I would check to make sure his brakes weren't loose. In that case, I would tighten them up, purely in the interest of safety.

I'll confess to having done that.

A customer brought his bike in for a tune up. During the tune up process I re-aligned his brake levers. After he tole me he wanted them the way that they were originally, I never did that again.

Early in spring, when the Pedestrian's on Bikes crowd is out, I want to load a super soaker up with chain lube and put those poor chains out of their wailing misery.

I would expect a bike shop to do that if I brought my bike in for a tune-up unless I told them not to when I dropped it off.

Heh, a lady rode past us yesterday on an organized ride with her front V brake undone, right after the start. My wife noticed it and sped up to tell her. "Oh yeah, thanks, but I did that on purpose. It was rubbing so I just figured this was easier"

I'd understand a bike shop doing that, and in 99% of cases I'd suspect it'd be welcomed from the levers being a bit out of place from a crash or handling bumps. I find it incredulous that someone would adjust a bike sitting on a rack unsolicited, though.

No way. I don't want anyone messing with the way I set up my bike, so I'm not going to mess with anyone else's. If I do see something that looks odd, I might ask about it but otherwise I figure that other people have set up their bikes exactly how they want them. I even once saw a guy with flat bars which were turned around backwards. I did ask about it and he said he prefers them that way.
