Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Interval training info

I was wondering if there is a book (checked amazon), website, centralized area for Interval training pertaining to particular disciplines of cycling. I've got my own plans and info from books, DVD's and what has helped me personally in the past, but trying to help someone else, with their goals gives me a bit of questioning if what works for me will work for him, her (in this case). Her goal is to do a century in sub 5 hrs. And some 40k TT's. Training peaks has it's +/-, but isn't user friendly enough. Just looking for an "if you're here do this and over time you'll be "close to" here" if followed carefully. Looking for a more disciplined approach then put in hours/miles and you'll be there.
Thanks
Happy new year

You probably need all the books mentioned above as each had good info. The harder part is knowing what to reccomend to your friend and also if they would even follow it.

Question: Anyone know of a wesbsite for forum where you could post your goals and game plan ( wkouts ) to get you there and it would be reviewed / tweaked by others or a coach?

Seems like a good idea and business model - a website for the Self coached that either has a computer program you put in variables to and it reccomends some workouts, but also you could pay for a coach to review it.

The Road Racing subforum probably fills those shoes, specifically the Training Status thread.

+1
100mi is not a long ride if it's flat, and 5 hours isn't too hard as a solo ride. Maybe a 5min stop to refill the water bottles and eat something. If you're in a group it's even easier, in which case sub 4 hour would make a more interesting target.
