I like the way you have done to your bike. I have exactly the same Shogun - will copy it (I have black "Handsome" mudguards). I bought this bike here in D.C from a young lady moving out to Boulder, Colorado. This was one of the strangest CL buy - there was no urgency for cash and decency to respond to my repeated inquiries! I saw the bike a day or two after it was posted in the local CL. I contacted the number and email provided. Unfortunately, I never heard back for months. I called and e-mailed a couple of times per week. The initial asking price was $350. After two months the bike was removed from the CL listing. Almost a month later it was reposted. Again, I contacted the owner a couple of times and never heard back for about three weeks. When I got a call back I almost cursed the young lady. I offered her $85 bucks - she took it. I am glad I was not mad to sour the sale - it is in excellent condition!

I also have two other Shoguns - both black coloured Cr-Mo 500s - one has a gold headset ( paid $59.99 at a thrift store). Unfortunately, it is small for me and beat up (paint is not in great shape). I hope to use parts for my other frames.

The second has a red headset and bought it from the son of the deceased owner (paid $130). Both Cr-Mo 500 comes with Deore parts (Shifter, FD & RD), The second one with red headset (Serial # S2G6828) is in an excellent condition.

Welcome to the forums. Your bicycle is a 1986 Shogun 500, with a frame that was manufactured in November 1985. The 900 refers to the Tange 900 tubing used in the main triangle of the frame.

Just picked up a Shogun 600, with Shimano 105 Golden Arrow groupo. Serial # M4F43XXX. There's a "Japan" sticker at the base of the seat tube. I think it's an '84, from my guess?

It's definitely a 1984 model, as it was manufactured early in a year ending in 4 and Shimano produced 1st generation 105 (aka Golden Arrow) only for the 1983-1986 model years..

T-Mar, I also saw your sticky thread, “Asian Serial Number Guide”, which is helpful & informative, so much mahalo for all you do here!

Just to confirm, is mine manufactured in Miki since I have the Japan sticker?

New to me Shogun Cr-Mo 400

hi everyone
just picked up my Shogun 400, first road bike Ive owned. Serial # S3K6076.
Frame is in good shape, paint is good for the most part, S logo on head tube. Dark maroon and cream head tube. 3TTT stem and bars, these are in excellent condition.
Components are a mix, not much is original. Newer nashbar brakes, suntour brake handles. Shimano 600 in the rear, Altus up front. Takagi 40/52 (original?), Matrix wheels, front hub is Shimani, rear hard to tell. 6 speeds. Newer WTB saddle, newer Hutchinson Nitro tires 700x28c labeled
Sticker at top of seat tube is pretty worn but I can make out Champion no.5
Sticker below bike shop sticker is worn beyond recognition.
Any idea on year?

The subject frame was manufactured in mid-1983 and the bicycle is a 1983 model, as the 1984 version was spec'd with the new Shimano-Z-series that replaced Altus. Also, the 1984 was upgraded to double butted main tubes, versus the plain gauge Tange #5 used on your bicycle. As noted, not much is original but Takagi cranks were spec'd
