Yes, sorry for being rude to this bike. I really do love it but i'm not that good enough to build it up, and make a nice bike of it.

Really do love it but it's no fun to just watch at the bike..

Very true. It's better to practice your wrenching skills on bikes that aren't so valuable. That way you're not going to hate yourself to much when you strip a thread or drop a wrench on the paint.

Here is mine: it's a Master X Light 58cm from about 1999-2001.

With a more classic wheelset (Novatec + DT Comp/Rev 2x/3x + Open Pro)

With Bontrager Race wheelset

The story of the first wheelset is somewhat disturbing: It would slip in the shiny chromed dropouts unless the skewer was really really tight. Unfortunately that had destroyed the bearings of the rear hub So I roughened the dropouts with a file and am using my spare wheelset. The Bontragers aren't bad, but 2100g vs. 1700g

I had a yellow 1999 Master Extra light that I loved.

It was mighty hard to sell her.

Yours looks great in either pic.

Seeing all these gorgeous Colnagos got me googling around to find the specs and differences of the Colnago models. I found lots of company history , but nothing with the models explained and even less on specs...
Any links to good sites for this info?

^ Unfortunately, it will all be speculation - but wild guesses is what makes collecting earlier Colnagos so much fun

Ok... I'm learning. My wild guess is '83 or newer?
Did someone get a fair deal on this one?

^ Oh, heck yes - it's probably around 1983 or so, and a Super as noted on the stays. However, I have my doubts that is original paint and am 100% positive that at least the seat tube decal is not original - the Rainbow band should state: "Record Ora Mexico 1972" and the font, particularly of the "C" is incorrect.

However, it's damn close and if there's no rust issues, it'll build into a sweet looking - and no doubt riding - bike.

Thanks DD
What cues are you looking at for the paint not being original? I see what you mean about the decal...
I am the buyer, so I'm curious?
I also noticed Colnago didn't use multi color schemes until mid '80s, so repainted makes sense. true?
Thanks...

It's not the multi-color as much as it's yellow portion - I just find it hard to fathom how a color like yellow could still look that fresh after 30 years or so out in the real world. It's possible that's original paint, even probable. If it is, it's survived well

Colnago was beginning to do fades by 1983/84. Indicators of your frame are the flat engraved seatstay caps, Colnago stampings on the chainstays, newer clover cutout in the BB shell and fully-sloping aero fork crown. These all started appearing on various frames right around 1983.

I think it's a nice score - and definitely a very different color scheme than we normally see - so you'll have to post some pics and details when you take delivery!

Nice!

Dangerously close to my size!

Say loose spoke, where are you located?

We'll have to get together for a ride in the spring.

I'm in St. Paul.
