Trek tx700 questions

Talked with a guy said he had a mint condition tx700, full campy, all original. How collectible and ride quality will this thing have? It's my size. Also he's unsure of a price, what would be top dollar for this , thanks

Why? Do you want to pay top dollar? Remember, "He who names price first loses". Ask what he wants. If it is in nice shape $400-$600.

Oh, ok. When you see it, make sure the seat post and the stem both move freely. I just destroyed a 1982 Trek 710 frame trying to get a stuck seat post out. The seat lug split.

fender1 gave you a good estimate.

I've got a TX500 (same geometry but slightly more stout Ishiwata 022 tubing) in 60cm and it rides great for day touring. Not a rocket exactly, but it climbs well and feels fast enough on the flats. Definitely doesn't ride on rails on fast descents, so you have to be alert and take good lines because corrections take a bit of persuasion. One hand riding on descents also induces some front end shimmy on my particular frame. Could be a headset issue. It's not a big concern to me because descents here are usually short, albeit steep at times. Doesn't slow me down any.

I find my TX700 for is comfortable for rides of under 200 miles/day. I have not experienced any stability or shimmy problems with mine (it is 57 cm C-C) and it tracks very well on descents. Not the greatest climbing bike. The build quality is OK but there's a lot of bikes out there that are better. I like its place in Trek history so I keep it more for what it represents more than for its performance.
