Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

That happened to me once riding in Tenerife. I was riding outside of Santa Cruz through a small suburb that was up in the hills and made a left turn onto a small crooked street that was pretty steep and poorly paved. I thought it would be a good challenge to try and make it to the top but half way up my legs got weak, I skidded on some small gravel, and couldn't regain my balance so down I went on my side.

And if I did keel over today, do you really think I'd confess to that on BF?

i lost a bit of my gut and it is amazing how many hand positions i gained on the bars.

i did once keel over on a steep climb a couple of years ago. using 39/25 i couldn't turn the crank and rolled over.

After 1 ride of 17 miles 2 days ago, my ass is still sore and my legs are still jell-o. Not to mention I'm about 15 lbs overweight. Depressing. I need chocolate.

I turned 30, got sick, went to my cousin's wedding.... all in the last three weeks. That's a lot of extra calories I've packed in and not been able to used them up. Rode 50 miles yesterday and my unprepared knees were not happy with me. At least I feel like I'm getting back on track. oh, and I've been fat for more than 20 of my 30 years.

I'm still fat but less so. Hovering around 235-240 for the last year but down from 305 4 years ago. This Xmas someone took my picture and I looked huge so time to loose again. Down to 207 now with a long way to go down to 175. I will say though the hills are faster going up and the drops are a lot more comfortable then I remember.

The bike carved almost one hundred pounds off of me in the past nine months. (Felt like it used a rasp sometimes, though). I'm still a big dude, but I've found that riding that much (200+ miles a week) has made me a lot faster than I look. I love the heartbreak on the faces of super-skinny guys when I beat them up a hill.
